?Chapter 1256:
“I get it,” n said softly, his voice low and steady.
He couldn’t stand that type of man—the kind who left a woman pregnant and then demanded she end the pregnancy.
“I’m a little worn out from standing,” n said casually, the warmth in his face returning with a faint smile. “Mind if Ie in, enjoy a ss of water, and rest for a while?”
“Mr. Briggs…” Donna’s expression was troubled. She didn’t want to drag someone else into the mess. “This isn’t as simple as it looks. If you get involved, you could lose your job…”
She knew exactly what Kevin was capable of. Even a friend of hers had been fired for speaking up. In Alerith, no one dared go up against him.
“Well, I’ve actually been hoping to lose my job,” n said with a dry smile, speaking with surprising ease. “Work’s exhausting anyway.”
Donna looked as though she might protest again, but just then, a voice rang out from inside—chilled, clipped, and utterly devoid of warmth. “If you’ve invited guests, stop loitering at the door.”
“Let’s go,” n said, unbothered. “No point in keeping him waiting.”
Donna’s heart twisted with worry, but n remained perfectlyposed.
n strolled in like he owned the ce, with Jesse, Nina, and Jerome following behind him.
Donna was a bundle of nerves. She’d already made up her mind—if anything felt even a little off, she’d ask them to leave. She couldn’t afford to drag them into her mess.
The moment n stepped inside, his eyesnded on a man sitting on the couch—who, of course, spotted him just as fast.
Kevin blinked, not sure whether he was seeing things correctly. n Briggs?
n made himselffortable on the single sofa beside him, tossing on a faint, smug smile. “Been a while, Kevin.”
Kevin’s face twisted. “What are you doing here?”

“I didn’t exactly volunteer,” n said, pulling Nina onto hisp. “My sweet niece couldn’t bear to be separated from Jerome. She insisted on bringing him back.”
At that, both Kevin and Donna turned to look at Jerome.
Kevin kept his calm and said coolly, “He’s safely home now. You can go.”
“Yeah, no,” n replied, acting as if he didn’t get the message. Kevin froze.
n continued casually, “I’ve got something important to talk over with Jerome’s mom, so I’m not going anywhere.”
Kevin’s eyes narrowed. “What is it?”
“I said it’s important,” n replied, deliberately vague. “And also none of your business.”
Kevin’s jaw tightened. His patience was wearing thin. He’d braced for a lot of things today—but Donna getting tangled up with n? That was not on his radar.
Those two weren’t supposed to have anything to do with each other. Ever.
“Everything has its proper order,” Kevin said, trying to keep his cool. “Mr. Briggs, why don’t youe back tomorrow to discuss… whatever this is.”
