Chapter 1234

    ?Chapter 1234:

“Freya.” Ellis let out augh at her reasoning and reached out to pinch her cheek. “Aren’t you being a little too biased?”

    She didn’t respond.

    Maybe she was.

But those two children were her entire world—how could she not be a little partial?

“Why so quiet? Finally realizing you’re ying favorites?” Ellis teased, the same as always.

“Jesse’s a really sweet boy,” Freya said, trying to ease the tension. “As long as you don’t provoke him, he’s absolutely adorable.”

In her mind, Jesse was sharp, disciplined, always polite. Truly a little gentleman.

“Then think about this—how do you think I survived this past year?” Ellis gave her a pointed reminder.

During those long months of pregnancy, he hadn’tid a finger on her, terrified of doing harm to her or the babies.

And after the birth, he’d been right there, helping her through the recovery. Then came the kids—and the two of them had poured all their energy into raising them.

Sure, they had help, but Ellis still kept a watchful eye because those kids were his pride and joy. Once they were a little older and easier to handle, Ellis and Freya finally had a bit of alone time.

But that window closed again the moment the twins turned three and started preschool.

Moreover, every time Ellis tried to sneak in a moment alone with Freya, Jesse would find a way to stir up trouble.

By the time the twins were edging toward four, Ellis and Freya barely had any private time—let alone anything resembling intimacy.

Freya hesitated, then admitted with a flicker of guilt, “He just needs someone close.”

    “Does he?”

    “Yes.”

“He’s already four,” Ellis reminded her tly.

    Freya nodded. “I know.”

“He should be sleeping on his own,” Ellis insisted, trying to persuade her. “He needs to learn independence.”

    Freya pressed her lips together.

If Jesse wasn’t independent, then no child was.

“If he messes with our private time again,” Ellis said with finality, “I’m shipping him off to the organization.” He had no intention of letting Jesse rob him of any more of his happy time with his wife.

Freya cleared her throat and tentatively asked, “Isn’t that a bit premature?”

“He’s already solving fifth-grade math problems,” Ellis replied, not budging an inch.

    Freya said nothing.

“He’s also been secretly picking up your hacking skills,” Ellis added.

    Again, Freya had no response.
