Chapter 1229

    ?Chapter 1229:

“Would I find it fun?” she asked, tilting her head.

“When you left Kristian and he chased after you, how’d that feel?” Ellis offered his example gently but pointedly.

Freya paused, then answered, “I wanted to knock his lights out.”

“Then this game’s not your cup of tea,” Ellis said, his deep voice calm andforting. “But Greta and Noel? They’re more like Tom and Jerry, ying a silly game of cat and mouse.”<fnb681> Follow current nov?ls on Find_Novel(.</fnb681>

His words clicked, and Freya finally got it. Greta and Noel were partners in a yful dance.

“Are you still mad at me over her?” Ellis asked, a hint of old hurt in his voice.

“I didn’t mean it like that,” Freya said, guilt nudging her. “After all we’ve been through, you know I’d never shut you out.”

Ellis’s gaze held hers, skeptical but soft. He wasn’t quite convinced.

“I’m starving,” Freya said, switching gears with a hopeful smile.

Ellis, ever attentive, let the moment pass. “What’s on the menu?” he asked.

“Mexican food,” she replied, her eyes bright.

“I’ll whip it up. Stay put and rest,” he said, already heading to the kitchen.

    “Deal!” Freya chirped, settling back.

Ellis busied himself with ingredients, determined to perfect her meal. Since marrying Freya, he’d brought in chefs to teach him new recipes, wanting to cater to her pregnancy cravings. The inte warned that pregnant women’s tastes could shift, and Freya, once unfussy, now loved bold, tangy, and spicy vors.

While Ellis cooked, Freya tiptoed upstairs. Sure he was distracted, she slipped into the study, locked the door, and fired up herputer to call Greta.

“Thought you missed my hint earlier,” Greta teased the moment she answered. She’d slyly said, “Who could threaten me?” It was a jab at Ellis and a nudge for Freya to act.

“Let’s talk business,” Freya said, piecing it together after theirst call. “Where are you?”

    “Airport,” Greta replied.

“Want me to cover your tracks for real?” Freya asked.

“Just for three months,” Greta said. She had her ns, and Noel’s pursuit was cramping her style. “After that, I’m good.”

Freya’s fingers flew across the keyboard, setting everything in motion. In ten minutes, Greta’s trail was gone, wiped clean.

As Freya moved to shut down theputer, the study door swung open. Ellis’s tall frame filled the doorway, his easy gaze settling on her with a knowing glint.

“Melvin needed a quick check-in,” Freya blurted, tossing out her usual excuse.

“Why so jumpy?” Ellis asked, leaning against the frame, amusement dancing in his eyes. “I just came to ask what soup you’re craving.”

Freya’s tongue was tied, her nerves betraying her. Why did she feel like a kid caught sneaking cookies?

Ellis arched a brow, waiting patiently.

“Any soup is fine,” she managed, her voice small.
