Chapter 1169

    ?Chapter 1169:

Freya skipped work that day. At dawn, she slipped out to triple-check the proposal setup. Ellis, meanwhile, had nearly everything in ce on his end. That afternoon, she dolled herself up, trading her usual sharp office attire for a soft, elegant look that felt more like a fairytale than her everyday style.

When she met Greta and Riley, their jaws dropped.

    “Freya, you’re stunning!”

“You’re finally rocking that heiress vibe.”

“I’ve known you forever, and I’ve never seen you like this.” They couldn’t stop gushing.

Freya wasn’t thrilled about the frilly outfit. High heels and a dress? Not exactly fight-ready.

“But…” Greta scanned her from head to toe, then raised a practical point. “With that fancy hairstyle and makeup, won’t it get ruined inside a costume?”

Makeup could probably hold up if she was careful. But the hairstyle? That was bound to get messy.

“It’s fine,” Freya said, brushing her delicate bangs into ce. She hadn’t styled them like this in years and still felt a bit off. “I dressed up to show Ellis how much today means to me.”

The asion deserved a special effort. And for a proposal, she was pulling out all the stops.

“Wow, you’re wearing your heart on your sleeve,” Greta teased, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. She nced at her watch. “He should be at the spot in about thirty minutes. Ready to head over?”

“Let’s do this,” Freya said, her voice brimming with excitement.

At 7:30 p.m., the sky had faded to a soft twilight.

Ellis, sharp in a tailored suit, sat on a bench, his features glowing in the dim light. Around him, a field stretched wide, sprinkled with tiny wildflowers.

He kept checking his watch, clearly waiting for someone special.

Then, a figure in a clumsy monkey costume waddled up and raised a paw in front of him.

Ellis looked puzzled. “Can I help you?” he asked, his voice polite but curious.

“I want you to hold my hand,” Freya said, her voice muffled and disguised by the suit.

Ellis couldn’t tell if it was a man or a woman speaking.

“I’m a little tied up right now,” he said kindly. “Maybe try someone over there?”

    “Hold my hand,” she insisted.

Ellis didn’t budge. He sat still, lips pressed together.

He checked his watch again. No sign of Freya—maybe she was stuck in traffic. Freya shifted awkwardly, then pulled a hand from behind her back. “Someone asked me to give you this.”

She handed him a white card with neat handwriting.

Greta had written, “Follow the monkey, and you’ll find Freya.”

Ellis frowned, confused. Wasn’t the n for them to bring Freya here? Why thest-minute switch?
