    The sudden light made Freya blink, her eyes adjusting before locking onto the bearded man.


    “Tell me about you and Ellis,” he said, leaning in slightly. “Share his story too, and I’ll let you go.” He was just testing her, feeling out the situation.


    Freya’s gaze flicked over the three men before settling back on him. “Your promises don’t mean much to me.”


    “What would make you trust me?” he pressed.


    “I want my phone back,” she said firmly.


    The bearded man’s tone grew sharp. “Listen, don’t push it. You have no idea where you are. Our methods aren’t exactly gentle for someone like you.”


    Freya stayed silent, her face unreadable. Behind her back, her hands kept working on the ropes, subtle and unnoticed.


    The bearded man took her silence as defiance. He nced at one of the henchmen and barked, “Get the warm-up tool.”


    “The… warm-up tool?” the henchman stammered, clearly thrown off. He was nervous now.


    If this “tool” was what he thought, he could be in hot waterter.


    The bearded man’s patience wore thin. “What else would I mean? Do we have another warm-up tool around here?”


    The henchman’s face lit up with understanding, though doubt lingered. He hurried off to grab it. Wasn’t this just supposed to be a simple talk? Why were they bringing out something serious like the warm-up tool? That thing was no joke.


    Still, he returned with it in hand.


    The bearded man held up the small device, waving it in front of Freya. “Don’t let its size fool you. One flick and it could break your arm or leg.”


    “So what?” Freya replied, her voice calm and steady, like she didn’t care one bit. At that moment, she realized who he was.


    He led a special group in End, a ce allied with her country. He and Ellis used to be close.


    The bearded man froze, caught off guard by her response. How could she be so calm? He couldn’t use the device on her, could he? Ellis would have his head if he did.

    “I don’t know why you brought me here, and I don’t care,” Freya said, her voice firm. “But if you don’t let me go, I won’t go easy on you.”


    The bearded man and his henchmen exchanged puzzled looks. How was she going to manage that, all tied up?


    “I’d love to see what you’ve got,” the bearded man said, leaning back with a smirk, though his eyes stayed sharp.


    By now, Freya hadpletely undone the ropes.


    She still wasn’t sure what they were after. At first, she thought it might be a prank on Ellis, but the tool they brought out hinted at something more serious. Had something shifted between this man and Ellis? She couldn’t let Ellis walk into a trap because of her.


    The bearded man kept his guard up, watching her every move despite his rxed posture. “What’s the holdup? Aren’t you going to show me what you can do?”
