?Chapter 1121:
Yvonne, sensing where this was going, let out a lightugh. “He didn’t mean it like that! And honestly, I don’t need either of you hovering over me. I can take care of myself.”
But the word “granddaughter-inw” had already sunk in. Ethan’s smile faltered—just a fraction—but it was enough for Edmond to see it and enjoy it. Still, Ethan didn’t respond to Yvonne’s pushback. His eyes softened again as he looked at her.
“Still, don’t push yourself too hard. I’m not busy anymore—staying a little longer isn’t a bother.”
Persistent? Edmond nearly rolled his eyes. With deliberate sharpness, he said, “There’s no need to trouble yourself. When Norton gets back, I’ll have him thank you properly with a meal.”
The namended like a rock in still water. For the briefest second, Ethan’s smile cracked—just a flicker—but it was gone before anyone could call it out.
“Yvonne’s an important part of our team,” he said, recovering quickly. “Helping her was the least I could do. There’s no need for a meal.”
Edmond pped a solid hand on Ethan’s shoulder. “It’s only right to show our gratitude properly. Yvonne is dearly cherished by our family. We can’t let your kindness go unnoticed.”
“Oh please, stop,” Yvonne interjected. Edmond’s dramatics were getting more and more ridiculous.
Ethan exhaled lightly, ncing at Edmond with calm resignation. Winning the old man over clearly wasn’t going to happen overnight. He turned to Yvonne and said gently, “If anything urgentes up, don’t hesitate to call. I just remembered something I need to handle, so I’ll take my leave now.”
Yvonne nodded swiftly. “Thank you again. Take care!”
He offered her a final smile, then strode out with quiet confidence. The moment Ethan disappeared down the corridor, Edmond let out a triumphant huff.
Good riddance, he thought. Now he could finally spend some uninterrupted time with Yvonne without that eyesore hovering nearby. He turned back to Yvonne, his expression melting into a warm smile. “So, Yvonne,” he began, as casually as he could muster, “what do you think of that boss of yours?”
As Ethan’s footsteps faded, Yvonne sank back into the couch, visibly rxing.
She picked up the remote and began flipping through channels.

“He’s a good person,” she said offhandedly. “He’s fair andpetent, and he’s always recognizing talent and giving people opportunities. He’s the one who saw my potential and gave me a shot when I needed it most. He’s very knowledgeable too—sometimes when I’m stuck on a project, hees up with these brilliant suggestions. And he’s considerate. If I stayte, he’ll even offer to drive me home…” Her voice drifted as shended on a channel that caught her interest. Lighting up, she turned toward Edmond. “Oh, look at this! Doesn’t it look fun?”
Edmond nodded, but his smile was tight. A growing sense of dread twisted in his chest.
She thought so highly of Ethan? A mentor, a savior, thoughtful enough to drive her home? This was dangerous territory.
With a sharp smack to his thigh, he whipped out his phone.
Yvonne raised a brow, watching curiously as he scrolled through his contacts withser focus.
He tapped Norton’s name and brought the phone to his ear. Norton, deep in the middle of a site inspection, picked up immediately when he saw his grandfather calling.
