Ka''s eyes welled up as she looked at Sky. After a long pause, she finally found her voice. "I never thought I''d run into you here. Mr. Walker, how have you been?"
Sky nodded. "I''ve been doing well. What about you? While I was away from thepany, were you still working at Walker Group?"
Ka nodded. "Yes, I''ve been there the whole time, still in the same position. Mr. Lincoln said I was doing a great job and that I didn''t need to resign just because of your situation. Mr. Walker, are you here today to pray or give thanks?"
"I''m here with my mother to give thanks," Sky replied.
Ka smiled. "Me too."
Just then, Charlotte finished lighting a candle and walked over to greet Ka. "Ms. Parham, hello!"
"Mrs. Walker, it''s nice to see you," Ka replied.
"What a coincidence it is to run into you here," Charlotte said warmly. "I''d like to walk around a bit on my own. Ms. Parham, would you mind keeping Skypany for a while? Make sure he doesn''t wander off and disappear on me, alright?"
She smiled and turned to leave.<fnb742> Th?s chapter is updated by FιndNovel</fnb742>
Sky was left speechless.
He wasn''t a child anymore, and he didn''t act on impulse the way he used to. He certainly didn''t need a babysitter.
But since Charlotte cared, he epted it withoutint.
"Mr. Walker, let me walk with you," Ka said gently.
She turned away and quietly wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes.
She hadn''t expected to run into Sky here. What surprised her even more was that he actually came over and spoke to her first.
Looking back, Ka admitted that she hadn''t truly stood by Sky when it mattered most. Even now, she couldn''t say for sure whether she had made the right choice.
There were nights when regret would creep in as shey in bed, but no matter how heavy the feeling, life continued as usual the very next morning.
Running into Sky here was already a big surprise for Ka, but the fact that he had taken the initiative to speak to her made it an even greater one.
"Mr. Walker, are you nning to return to thepany?" she asked.
They chose a quiet path and began strolling around the chapel.
"I''ll officially return once my probation period ends," Sky replied. "For now, I''m focusing on recovering at home and handling a few things remotely. Lincoln is still representing thepany in public matters."
Ka nodded. "He''s juggling bothpanies now, so he''s not at the office very often. Last time, he gave me an email address to report to directly. Would it happen to be yours?"
Sky nodded slightly. "Yes. I''ve taken over part of Lincoln''s responsibilities and am managing them online. Once my probation ends, I''ll return to Walker Group and resume my former role."
Ka let out a quiet sigh of relief, and her smile brightened. "That''s great to hear. Everyone''s been looking forward to your return."
Sky looked a little surprised. "Everyone? I thought they''d all be disappointed in me after what happened."
Ka quickly shook her head. "Not at all. No one''s angry with you. Honestly, we''ve all just been hoping for your return."
Sky smiled. "Alright, then. Thank you. Thank you all."
As they continued walking, Sky asked about thepany''s development and how things had been during his absence.
Truthfully, he already knew most of it. But he brought it up to keep the mood light and to avoid an awkward silence.
Time slipped by as they chatted, and soon, a full hour had gone by.
Just then, Sky''s phone rang-it was Charlotte.
"Sky, I''ve finished speaking with the reverend. I think it''s time to head back," she said. "Please ask Ms. Parham if she''d like toe with us. She can ride in our car."
"Alright, I''ll ask her," Sky replied.
He turned to Ka. "Ms. Parham, My mother''s ready to leave. Are you heading back too? You''re wee to ride with us."
Ka hesitated. She really wanted to spend more time with Sky, but as his secretary, she wasn''t sure it was appropriate to ride in the same car as her boss.
"Sky, let me speak to Ms. Parham," Charlotte said over the phone.
Sky handed the phone to Ka. "My mother wants to talk to you."
Ka took it carefully and said politely, "Mrs. Walker."
Charlotte chuckled. "Ms. Parham,e down the hill with us. I already asked around—you didn''t drive up here, did you? You hiked up all those steps, right?"
"Yes, I did," Ka replied. "Thank you, Mrs. Walker."
She took a deep breath. Refusing now would seem ungrateful, and truthfully, part
of her did want to spend a bit more time with Sky.
After the call ended, Ka said, "Mr. Walker, your phone."
"Thanks," Sky replied as he epted it from her.
With that, Ka followed Sky back the way they came.
Soon, they reached the parking lot, where Charlotte was sitting in the front passenger seat. Ryan stood by the car door, waiting for them. As soon as he saw the two, he came forward and opened the door for them.
"I''m feeling a little queasy and am worried I''ll get car sick on the way back, so I''ll
sit in the front," Charlotte said, rolling the window down halfway and closing her eyes in difort.
Seeing this, Sky gestured for Ka to join him in the backseat.
The driver started the car, and they began descending the mountain road.
The road up was winding, and so was the way down. As they took a turn a little
too quickly, Ka lost her bnce and identally leaned against Sky.
"Sorry, Mr. Walker, I didn''t mean to," she said.
Before Ka could finish her apology, the car made another sharp turn, causing Ka to fall right into Sky''s arms.
Sky quickly wrapped his arms around her. "Ryan, slow down."
"Yes, Mr. Walker," Ryan replied.
Sky helped Ka sit up properly and then reached over to fasten her seatbelt.
"This turn was a bit sharp," Sky said.
"Thank you, Mr. Walker," Ka replied.
Her heart raced. Sky''s temper had truly changed so much. He used to be distant and aloof, but now he was gentle and knew how to take care of others.
From the front passenger seat,
Charlotte suddenly spoke up. "Ms. Parham, now that we''ve met, just drop off anypany matters at WalkenEstate next time. You can coordinate directly with Sky Hes slowly easing back into things and preparing to return to thepany. Be sure to cooperate with him so everything returns to how it was." s
"Yes, Mrs. Walker," Ka responded.
Charlotte gave a soft hum in acknowledgment and didn''t speak again for the rest
of the ride.
After reaching Dithoria, Charlotte instructed the driver to take them directly to Walker Estate. Once they arrived, she asked Sky to drive Ka home.
"Sky, take Ms. Parham home. Your dad will have Ryan handle thingster," Charlotte said.
"Yes, Mother," Sky replied respectfully. "Ms. Parham, I''ll take you home." Ka felt even more surprised. "Oh, no. It''s okay. I can just take a cab home." Sky opened the car door. "There are no cabs to hail around here. Please get in." Ka reluctantly got into the car. She didn''t want to impose on Sky, so she sat in the front passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt.
Sky didn''t say anything. He just started the car and drove out of Walker Estate.
On the second-floor balcony of Walker Estate, Charlotte and William stood looking out. "Honey, do you think Sky has noticed how Ka feels about him?"
"It''s hard to say.
William sighed. "I
When ites to their feelings, we shouldn''t interfere. They''re not kids anymore, they know what they''re doing it''s the same for Lincoln When he found someone he liked, he
went after her." s?novels
Charlotte frowned. "Sky''s situation is different from Lincoln''s. I''m worried that he''s
developed a psychological barrier and will never fall in love or get married."
William took Charlotte''s hand. "That''s his choice. Sky''s tougher than you think, and being in prison wasn''t the worst thing for him. Look at how much his character has improved. When ites todove, it''s all about fate. No one can interfere with that, and you can''t force it." s
