By the end of it all, Sierra couldn''t keep her emotions in check. She took deep breaths, reminding herself not to get angry. Getting worked up over a man like Samuel would only make her sick.
Samuel stared at her, but it was obvious she didn''t believe a single word he''d said.
"Cee, do you really have to divorce me?"
"That''s right. There''s nothing left to talk about between us besides divorce."
She forced herself to stay calm. "Samuel, we''ve known each other for years. Let''s end things on a decent note, okay? Don''t make me turn things ugly.
"Oh, and here''s a little advice. After we divorce, don''t go ruining some other woman''s life. The way you think and act will only hurt whoever ends up with you.
"You can''t bring anyone happiness. All you''ll ever do is make them feel drained, hurt, and miserable. If you really loved me, Samuel, you''d let me go."
"Cee, I''m not divorcing you. I''d rather die than sign the papers," Samuel growled, his eyes cold as he red at her. "If you''re hell-bent on divorcing me, then I want Sinir Group from Sophia and all of your parents'' assets. Otherwise, you can forget about it for the rest of your life."
"So that''s your true colors and intention." Sierraughed bitterly. "All this time, refusing to sign the papers, making Maggie call me nonstop-it was all about getting your hands on Sinir Group and my parents'' assets.
"Well, that''s too bad. I''m divorcing you, and not a dime of that money will go to you. If you won''t let this end cleanly, then fine. We''ll see how far this goes.
"Mathilda, let''s go.
"Maggie,e with me for a second."
Sierra stood and walked out. Maggie quickly followed.
Outside, Sierra transferred money to Maggie. "Maggie, I need you to find two people who are strong and capable, preferably trained in martial arts."
Maggie asked carefully, "Ms. Remington, what do you need these two people for?"
Sierra replied smoothly, "To take care of Samuel. If he refuses, just tell him it was arranged by me.
"After all, we''re still legally married. It''s only natural for a wife to find extra help to take care of her injured husband. Don''t you think so, Maggie?"
Maggie''s eyes lit up as she nodded. "I get it now, Ms. Remington. I understand."
Sierra nodded. "Good. Make sure he''s well taken care of."
"Yes, Ms. Remington. I''ll start looking right away. As luck would have it, I actually know a few good people in that line of work. For a man like Mr. Sinir, male caretakers are definitely the better choice."
Sierra thought for a moment. "Maggie, if you can get him to agree to the divorce, I''ll pay you extra. Of course, your methods can be a little... creative. But they must be legal."
Maggie patted her chest confidently. "Don''t worry, Ms. Remington! I''ll do my best, though I can''t promise you any results. But I''ll give it everything I''ve got."
"Good. Thank you."
Sierra transferred another sum of money to Maggie. "I was nning to take you with me, but now that I think about it, I need you here to keep an eye on Samuel."
"I''ll pay you well, so just do what needs to be done."
"Yes, Ms. Remington."
From inside the house, Sierra could see Samuel wheeling himself out to stop her, but Mathilda blocked his way.
She''d considered using the two bodyguards Mathilda had brought, but she realized they were only trained to protect others, not in torturing.
So she figured it''d be better to have Maggie find some male caretakers.
Now that Samuel had shown his true colors, she no longer felt obligated to be civil with him. She''d been too nice for too long, and all it did was give Samuel a false sense of entitlement.
"Maggie, I''ll leave it in your hands, then."
Sierra smiled faintly, then gave Mathilda and the others a look. After that, she turned to leave with them.
Once in the car, Mathilda handed her a piece of chocte.
"I wanted to say something, but I figured it''s better not to." Her expression wasplicated. "Ms. Remington, how did you ever end up marrying someone like Samuel?"
Sierra epted the chocte, unwrapped it, and popped it into her mouth. After swallowing, she finally said, "I was an orphan adopted by my mom, Ms. ir. I grew up with Samuel overseas.
"We were childhood sweethearts, I suppose. It just made sense to get married while we were abroad."
She gave a bitter smile. "Back then, Samuel had apany overseas that did pretty well, thanks to his family''s money and the people my mom had arranged to help him.
"We never had any real fights, never argued, so I had no idea how obsessed he was with power and gain. He had a business, a good life, and plenty of money from my mom. He never suffered or struggled for anything.
"I never imagined he''dpete with Sophia over Sinir Group, let alone go after my parents'' assets. It''s just... disappointing.
"But at least now I know what kind of person he is. So when I decided to divorce him, I didn''t hesitate. I''ve no regrets."
She smiled at Mathilda. "Sorry for letting you all see that mess."
"Don''t say that, Ms. Remington. You made the right call."
Mathilda reached over and hugged her. "Some couples spend a lifetime together and still can''t tell if the person next to them is a sheep or a monster. At least you''ve seen Samuel for what he is. In a way, that''s a blessing. Men cane and go, but money? You have to hold on to that."
Sierra nodded. "You''re absolutely right. You can always find another man, but if you lose your money, it''s so much harder to earn back.
"Besides, Sinir Group belongs to Sophia, and what my parents left behind belongs to them. Even though it''s all been left to me, I won''t be an ungrateful daughter. Samuel has made mepletely give up on him, and now, I don''t have to feel guilty or soft-hearted anymore.
"I can move forward with a clear conscience."
She looked out the window. "I''m still young. Making one mistake isn''t the end of the world."
"Right, Ms. Remington. You''ve got this."
Sierra smiled. "Yeah. I''ve got this."
Once they were back, Mathilda saw Sierra safely home before heading off with the others.
Standing at her front door, Sierra took a few deep breaths, raised her chin with a smile, and pushed the door open to walk inside.
