Sierra was deeply touched by Samantha''s words. What she had feared most was that, as Samuel''s biological mother, Samantha would stand by his side and help him go after Sophia.
If Samantha chose to support Samuel against Sophia, Sierra would likely suffer the same fate, as Sophia''s sister-inw. No, she might be luckier than Sophia was because she had her real parents who loved her.
Jonathan and Melissa had spent so many years separated from Sierra that their longing surpassed everything else. Thus, she was never worried that her parents would side with Samuel or try to persuade her to stay in an unhappy marriage.
As long as she had the support of her parents and Sophia by her side, she had enough courage to part ways with the man she''d loved for so many years and start over.
Soon, the bodyguards Samantha had arranged arrived. The lead bodyguard was a woman, and the moment she reached the door, she introduced herself.
"Ms. ir, Ms. Remington, hello. I''m Mathilda Crowford, one of Mr. Holt''s people. We''re all under hismand. Mr. Holt gave me specific instructions. If we ever receive a call from Ms. ir, no matter what the task is, we''re toplete it without fail.
"You can trust us."
Samantha reached out to shake her hand. "Thank you. I appreciate it. I''ll leave this trip in your hands."
"You''re very wee, Ms. ir. This is what we''re here for."
Mathilda then turned to Sierra. "Ms. Remington, our car is downstairs. Shall we leave now?"
Sierra nodded. "Yeah, let''s go."
They all headed downstairs, got into the car Mathilda had driven over, and set off for Causeway Bay.
On the way over, Sierraid out her expectations. "When we get to Causeway Bay, I''ll bring a few female bodyguards in with me. The men can stay outside. If I need backup, I''ll call for you.
"I''m not looking to start a fight or make a scene, but I''m afraid. That''s why I brought you along to ensure my safety."
"Don''t worry, Ms. Remington. We understandpletely," Mathilda said seriously. "We''re Mr. Holt''s people— among the top-tier bodyguards in all of Dithoria State. We won''t let anything happen to you."
"Alright. Thank you." Sierra let out a deep breath. "Do I transfer your payment directly or—"
"There''s no need. Mr. Holt has already paid us in full. We''re assigned to Ms. ir, so you don''t need to worry aboutpensation at all," Mathilda said with a smile.
"Mr. Holt also said that you''re Ms. Sinir''s sister. She''s going to be our boss'' future wife. All we ask is that you put in a good word for us if there''s ever a chance."
Sierra smiled and nodded. "Of course. I can definitely do that."
As they chatted, the car pulled into Causeway Bay. Sophia had a house here, too. When they were little, she''d even brought Sierra here to visit.
As they went deeper into the estate, Sierra looked at the familiar vis and couldn''t help but remember her childhood with Sophia.
The first week she''d arrived at the Sinir residence, Sophia had taken her to Causeway Bay and pointed to two neighboring vis.
"Sierra, this one''s mine, and that one''s Samuel''s. You''re going to live with me now, and half of everything in my house is yours. You get a share of my clothes, shoes, and bags.
"My mom''s your mom, too. As for my dad... forget about him."
The young Sierra had stared at the big, beautiful house, then tightly held onto Sophia''s hand. She promised, "Sophia, when I grow up and make money, I''ll split it with you. Whatever''s mine will be yours, too."
"Deal." The young Sophia had grinned and hooked pinkies with Sierra. "We''re friends forever. As long as I have money, you''ll never be poor."
"I''ll work hard too, so I can give all my money to you," Sierra had said with the same earnestness.
Back then, neither of them could have imagined that Ivan would one day favor his mistress over his wife, or that Samantha would help her and Samuel flee the country in an attempt to protect them before Ivan even realized what was happening.
Sure, life abroad had been good, but the price was that Sophia was left behind in the care of a cruel father, a scheming mistress, and Ivan''s illegitimate daughter.
"Ms. Remington, we''re here." Mathilda''s voice pulled Sierra from her memories.
She nodded gently. "Okay." After getting out of the car, she looked at the familiar vi, her emotionsplex and hard to untangle.
She stood there quietly for a while before taking a deep breath and stepping forward to ring the doorbell.
It wasn''t long before Maggie opened the door. She had never met Sierra in person, but she had seen photos of her on Samuel''s phone, so she recognized her right away and eagerly reached out to grab her hand.
"Ms. Remington, are you here to take me with you? I can pack my bags right now!"
Sierra gently shook her head. "Sorry, I''m here to see Samuel, but if you decide you don''t want to work here anymore, you''re wee toe with me afterward."
"Really? Thank you, Ms. Remington. You''re even prettier in person." Maggie beamed. "Please,e in." She leaned closer and whispered, "Ms. Remington, just a heads-up. Mr. Sinir''s emotions are..... unstable. I''ve only been working here a few days, and I''ve already seen him go berserk more than ten times.
"He throws stuff when he gets mad. Then, he makes me go out and buy recements. Honestly, I''m scared he''ll hit me someday.
"I know it''s not right to talk badly about an employer, but with his values and mindset, I just can''t bring myself
to respect him. If I weren''t broke and desperate for work, I swear I''d p him across the face."
"Maggie, that''s enough," Sierra interrupted calmly.
"Right, of course. Ms. Remington, please have a seat. I''ll go make tea."
Maggie hurried into the kitchen. Samuel wasn''t in the living room, so it wasn''t clear which room he was in.
"Take a seat," Sierra told Mathilda and the others. "I''ll go find him."
She began knocking on doors one by one. "Samuel, are you in there?"
"You wanted to see me, so I''m here."
A momentter, one of the doors opened. Samuel was sitting in a wheelchair, his eyes teary as he looked at her. "Cee... you''re finally here."
Sierra frowned slightly and stood at the doorway without stepping in. "I didn''te to check in on you. I came to talk about the divorce.
"Since you''re injured and can''t travel, we don''t have to go abroad to finalize it right now. But we can sort out the division of assets in advance."
