The moment they reached the underground parking garage, Zachary ran ahead to get the car. Once everyone had climbed in, he handled the situation with Sophia.
"Sophia, try calling Ms. Remington''s phone. See if we can find out how she''s doing and which hospital she''s in."
"Okay," Sophia said quickly, dialing Sierra''s number.
The call connected right away, but it was not Sierra who picked up. It was the same stranger who had called earlier. "Hello, are you the family of the person who owns this phone?"
Sophia replied at once, "I am. Please, can you tell us which hospital you''re at and how she''s doing?"
"We''re at Genesis Medical Center. She''s not in great shape. She''s injured and pretty shaken up. I''ve already called the police, but the guy who attacked her ran off, and she suffered an injury to her face."
Sophia turned on the speakerphone, and the stranger''s voice filled the car, sending Melissa and Jonathan into a state of panic.
Jonathan pleaded, "Please, please help take care of our daughter. We''re on our way now, and we''ll surely repay you once we arrive."
"I promise I''ll stay with her until you get here. Don''t worry! Once you arrive, just call this number again."
"Yes, yes, of course. Thank you... Thank you so much!" Jonathan said.
"I need to take care of the hospital paperwork now, so I''ll hang up."
"Yes, sure! Thank you!"
Jonathan agreed instantly, and Melissa broke down crying. "What are we going to do? Cee''s hurt... How could something like this happen out of nowhere? Wasn''t she supposed to be with Samuel? Where is he? Call him now!"
"There''s no need to call Samuel," Zachary said steadily, keeping his eyes on the road. "If the good samaritan used Cee''s phone to call you, it means Ms. Remington wanted that call to be made. She clearly doesn''t want Samuel to know about this."
Both Melissa and Jonathan froze as the implication hit them, and neither of them said a word. But momentster, Melissa broke down again, sobbing even harder.
She cried, "What are we going to do? Jon, if anything happens to Cee... I won''t have anything left to live for."
Zachary said firmly, "Let''s not be so pessimistic. We still don''t know how serious it is, and it might not be as bad as we imagine. We''ll find out everything once we get to Genesis Medical Center."
He continued, "For now, let''s stay focused. Ms. Remington had enough strength to have someone call you, so that''s already a good sign. Mrs. Remington, you''ve got to stay calm.
"If you break down before we even handle what''s going on with Ms. Remington, we''ll have to worry about you too—and that''ll just make things worse."
His words were a bit harsh, but he was right. Panicking would not help; it would only slow them down.
"Mr. Holt is right. You need to stay strong." Jonathan''s voice steadied as he slowly regained hisposure. He gently took Melissa''s hand and tried to calm her down. "Don''t worry. Cee is tougher than luck itself. She will be okay."
Melissa tried her best to hold it together, but no matter how hard she fought it, the tears just would not stop falling.
...
Zachary drove quickly but safely, and soon, they reached Genesis Medical Center, just like the stranger had said. Once they arrived, they called the number and did not have to wait long before they saw Sierra.
The ones who had helped her were a young couple. The girl, Aubrey Freeman, stayed by Sierra''s side, while the guy, Kyle Webster, had been the one running around making calls and handling the paperwork.
"Cee!" Melissa cried out the second she saw her beloved daughter, and she rushed forward. "Sweetie, are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere else?"
Sierra''s face had already been bandaged. Since there was gauze covering the wound, no one could see how bad the cut really was.
"Mom..." Sierra whispered, and the tears she had been holding back finally broke free. She stood up and threw herself into Melissa''s arms, sobbing uncontrobly.
"I''m here, sweetie..." Melissa said through her own tears. "Let me take a look at you. Tell me where else it hurts."
"Was it you two w who saved my daughter?" Jonathan finally felt a sense of relief as he watched Melissa and Sierra wrapped in each other''s arms. He turned to the young
couple and thanked them sincerely.
"Thank you. Thank you both so
much. Please let me take you out for a meal and give you some kind of reward."
He added, though his voice still carried tension, "But first, I want to ask more about what happened to Sierra."
Aubrey replied, "Sir, we really don''t need any kind of reward. Anyone would have stepped in under those circumstances."
She exined, "She was walking alone in Flowerscent Park. That riverside area''s been abandoned for a while now, so it''s pretty empty-homeless folks tend to hang around there, and when they spot someone alone, they take the chance to rob them.
"My boyfriend, Kyle, and I were cutting through as a shortcut, and that''s when we saw her being attacked. When we stepped in, the guy pulled a knife and shed her across the face. Kyle almost got hurt too.
"But thankfully, Kyle managed to fight him off and scare him away. We called the police, but we prioritized getting her to the hospital, so we haven''t had time to give an official statement yet."
She continued, "But don''t worry. The officers are on their way now. They said they''d check the surveince footage from Flowerscent Park, but it''s probably a long shot. The ce has been abandoned for so long that the cameras might not even work anymore."
Aubrey nced at Sierra with
concern. "She''s really beautiful, and the cut on her face is pretty long. The doctor said it might scar, but with proper treatment, it could heal without leaving a mark. We paid for her hospital bill upfront. You can just reimburse us—that''s more than enough."
"Yes, of course. How much was it?" Jonathan pulled out his phone and added
Kyle''s contact info, ready to transfer the money immediately.
Before Kyle could even answer,
Jonathan sent over one million dors. Stunned by the number, Kyle eximed, "Sir, that''s way too much! Her hospital bill was only 2,625 dors. Plus, a sudden deposit thatrge into my ount will trigger a bank investigation."
Aubrey peeked over his shoulder and gasped too. The two of them nced back
at Sierra, realizing they had unknowingly saved a wealthy heiress.
"It''s not too much at all," Jonathan said, wiping his eyes.
He added, "If it weren''t for you two, I don''t even want to think about what could''ve happened to her. Even if I gave you another million, it still wouldn''t be enough. Please just take it. She''s worth every penny."
The couple exchanged nces. They had already agreed they would not mention the part where Sierra was nearly assaulted. They would only say that her face was cut to protect her dignity. Whether Sierra chose to talk about the rest would be up to her.
"Sir, we really can''t ept this," Aubrey said firmly. As much as it pained her, this was not money they could take. "Kyle, don''t ept the transfer. Let the bank auto-reverse it when the timees."
Kyle nodded. "Alright, I''ll listen to you."
"Now that you''re here, we''ll head out. We''ve got some other things to take care of," Aubrey added.
She looked over at Sierra. "I think your family should really spend some timeforting her."
"Yes, we understand. Thank you both so much. Can we at least keep in touch?" Jonathan asked, clearly moved by their kindness.
From what he had seen, they were not just brave. They had integrity too. They did
the right thing without expecting anything in return, and that kind of character was rare and admirable.
