"They were protecting you," Natalie said tly. "My people have been protecting you. Otherwise, do you think you can rest and recuperate here in peace? Since you mentioned the Langleys, it looks like I''ll have to pay them a visit."
She stood up and added, "It looks like I should meet with Kenton as well. Grace has certainly prepared quite a few surprises for me."
A mocking smile appeared on her face. If Grace was involved in Laura''s childbirth, it meant she had set her sights on the Holdens years ago.
However, Natalie couldn''t figure out many of Grace''s actions. So, she needed to meet her.
"Ms. Lombard, get some rest. With Mr. and Mrs. Zimmer taking care of you, you''ll get better soon."
With that, Natalie turned and walked out.
Hector was chatting with the couple. When they saw here out of the room, they all stood up.
"Nat, how did it go?" he asked.
"Hector, we need to make a trip to the Langley residence." Natalie picked up her backpack and put it on. "Mr. and Mrs. Zimmer, please take good care of Julie. I have something else to handle."
"Oh, of course. Ms. Natalie, don''t worry. We''ll look after Ms. Lombard."
Natalie gave a nod and then called Hector to leave the clinic with her. Inside the car, Hector asked, "Nat, what did you and Julie talk about?"
"She said she''s Kenton Langley''s wife, and Kenton is Grace''s younger brother. She also said the Langleys arranged for her to be Lucy''s assistant. Also, Grace had met with Cassie many years ago."
Natalie pinched the bridge of her nose. "Grace''s biological daughter is Megan Langley, who used to be Laura''s nutritionist. Also, Victor isn''t Grace''s biological son.
"Selena was taken from the hospital and sold by Kenton because Grace disliked Diana. Also, Victor went against Grace''s wishes and insisted on marrying Diana. Hector, does any of this make sense to you?"
Hector was dumbfounded. "She abandoned her biological daughter to raise Victor, who wasn''t even rted to her by blood. Then, she took Victor''s daughter away and sold her off, just because Victor didn''t listen to her. Nat, is that what you''re saying?"
Hector was starting to question his own understanding. Could a person really do such a thing?
Natalie nodded. "That''s right. That''s what Julie said to me. Hector, you think this is farfetched, right?
Hector pondered for a moment before answering, "But if you think about it carefully, it''s possible. Look, after you were taken to the Langley family, you ended up being used as Diana''s walking blood bank.
"Could it be possible that Grace never intended for Kenton to sell Selena? Maybe he did it behind her back."
"Regardless, they''re all human traffickers." Natalie''s gaze turned icy. "Julie said Kenton''s whereabouts are unpredictable, and he was rarely home. She doesn''t see him much.
"I''ve stayed in the Langley residence for almost 20 years. Aside from overhearing Grace mention her younger brother on a phone call once, I never saw anyone named Kenton around.
"When we get there and see Grace, we''ll find out."
"Alright." Hector nodded. "Nat, the Langleys hate us to the core. We should bring more people with us."
"There''s no need for that." She took out a small bottle from her bag, opened it, and poured out two pills, handing one to Hector. "Take it."
"Okay." Hector took the pill without question and swallowed it as Natalie instructed.
"This is an antidote. By taking it in advance, we don''t have to worry about the Langleys poisoning us. I was once caught off guard and drugged by Victor. I won''t give them another chance."
As Natalie spoke, she looked outside the car window.
As dawn approached, the car pulled up in front of the Langley residence.
The spot where Olivia had once crashed her car had been repaired. The courtyard was filled with blooming flowers. Everything looked just like when Natalie still lived there.
Natalie stepped out of the car and rang the doorbell.
Now that Grace got older, she had been sleeping less than before. When she was
in the nursing home, she would wake up early every day to watch TV.
Now that she was back in the Langley residence, she had a lot of mess to deal with. She was probably sleeping even less.
Not long after Natalie pressed the doorbell, a helper came to open the door.
"Ms. Langley, you''re back!" The helper was a new face, but she clearly knew who Natalie was. "Ms. Langley, pleasee in."
"Don''t call me that. Myst name is Walker. Call me Ms. Walker."
Natalie nced up at the house and saw that the lights in the rightmost room on the second floor were on.
A momentter, the curtains were pulled open, revealing Grace, fully dressed and standing by the window, gazing in the direction of the entrance.
Their eyes met, but none of them spoke.
After a while, Grace turned away from the window. As for Natalie, she followed the helper into the house.
Hector followed closely behind. Soon, they were seated in the living room.
"Ms. Walker, this gentleman, please have a seat. I''ll prepare some tea."
The helper retreated respectfully. Soon, Grace appeared at the top of the staircase. Then, she descended slowly.
After that, she sat down across from Natalie. "Nattie, I didn''t expect you toe back to see me one day."
"Mrs. Langley Senior, please call me
Ms. Walker or Natalie." She wasn''t
interested in getting close to Grace. "There is no bond between us anymore. I don''t think it''s
appropriate for you to address me so intimately."
"Nattie, must you be so distant with your grandmother?" Grace looked heartbroken. "Ever since you were gone, I''ve been thinking about you all the time. Even when your family retaliated against us, I never med you." s?novel
"Mrs. Langley Senior, of course, you shouldn''t have med me. After all, you brought this upon yourself. It''s only normal for my family to seek justice on my behalf."
Just like that, Natalie countered Grace''s words, tossing the me right back at
her.
The Langleys had wronged her first. The Walkers'' retaliation was justified.
If Grace had treated her with sincerity, Natalie would''ve reciprocated. But if Grace had been using her, there was no reason for Natalie to hold onto past ties. "What''s more, if not for your selfish schemes, Emma and I would never have been switched at birth. I wouldn''t have spent so many years here being a walking blood bank.
"I wouldn''t have been abused by Diana and Victor, and I wouldn''t have been deceived by your lies into working tirelessly for the Langley family.
"Instead, I would''ve grown up surrounded by my real parents and brothers, carefree and loved. I
would''ve been raised by a familyet
that truly cared for me, rather than
having my blood drained year after year."
