Chapter 1360

    Chapter 1360:

“Okay.” Sadie didn’t flinch. Her response was measured, almost indifferent.

Without further dy, the officials rose and made their exit, their shoes echoing against the floor until the soft click of the door restored silence to the apartment.

The tension that had bound the room finally unraveled, leaving a heavy fatigue in its wake.

Sadie slowly let go of Noah’s hand, as if severing a lifeline, then rose to her feet.

She walked toward the floor-to-ceiling window, its ss pane revealing a sweeping view of the city below—intersecting roads, distant cars, people drifting like specks.

But her eyes weren’t on the skyline.

They dropped lower, honing in on the building’s shadowy edges—where men in civilian clothes stood idly, pretending to smoke, to chat, to wait.

The men’s cements were too precise to be coincidence. They didn’t just happen to linger near exits—they upied them.

Their eyes, though feigning disinterest, flicked subtly toward the windows, the lobby, the entryways.

    This wasn’t protection.

    The watch had already begun.

    No—custody.

A faint sneer curled at the edge of Sadie’s lips.

Of course it wouldn’t be that simple.

Noah stepped beside her, his eyes scanning the same corners. He saw it too—the stiff postures, the manufactured casualness, the sharpness masked behind neutral expressions.

He slipped his hand over hers, trying to warm her fingers.

“They’re not guards,” he murmured, his voice low and grim.

The meeting earlier might have looked like a civil negotiation, but he could feel it—an undercurrent of threat beneath every polite word. They smiled and nodded, draped in patriotism and principle, but their eyes betrayed something else—hunger, calction.

They were no better than Emerson.

One used brute force, the other maniption—but both were ready to break bones for that data.

This so-called safe house was just a prettier prison. Emerson had his estate. These people had state backing. Same game. Different uniforms.

    Noah’s jaw tightened.

He needed to get Sadie out—fast.

Sadie turned toward him, her eyes finding his.

In his gaze, she saw her own thoughts reflected back—sharp, untrusting, resolute.

She gave a slight shake of her head.

“Of course I know,” Sadie said quietly, her voice edged with fatigue—but beneath it was steel, a sharp rity born of harsh truth.
