?Chapter 1455:
Gabri’s response was immediate. “I don’t want to go to school.”
Bryan shot a quick nce back at Eileen, who simply raised an eyebrow and gave him a “handle it yourself” look before turning away.
“If you skip school, you’ll miss out on all the fun and learning,” Bryan said patiently. “Plus, the other kids might mock you for falling behind.”
Bryan was just getting started with his pep talk when Gabri cut him off with a dismissive wave of her hand.
“I don’t care what those kids think,” she dered. “I’m not getting that shot! I’m not going to school tomorrow! No way!”
Seeing his daughter’s stubborn streak, Bryan quickly changed tactics. “Hey, how about we go buy a whole bunch of candy tomorrow?”
Gabri’s protests came to an abrupt halt. Her eyes widened. Eileen couldn’t help but smirk. Bryan was still so clueless when it came to dealing with their daughter.
He had been working hard to earn some paternity leave, which meant he hadn’t had much time to bond with Gabri. As a result, he waspletely unprepared for the fallout that woulde from breaking a promise to her.
Gabri, her eyes sparkling with excitement, peppered him with questions. “Daddy, we’re gonna buy candy tomorrow, right? And no shots?”
Bryan replied, “We’ll buy all the candy you want.”
The next morning, Bryan took Eileen and Gabri to the hospital. The drive took a full hour, and by the time they reached the hospital, both Eileen and Gabri were sound asleep.

Bryan gently nudged Eileen awake, then hurried around the car to open the door and carefully lifted a slumbering Gabri from her car seat.
The hustle and bustle of the hospital soon stirred Gabri from her sleep. She opened her eyes just as Bryan carried her through the hospital doors.
Her eyes widened in horror as she realized where they were, and her face crumpled into tears. “I don’t want a shot!” she eximed. “Daddy, you liar! You tricked me!”
Bryan replied, “I only promised we’d buy candy today. I never said anything about not getting a shot.”
He paused, seeing fresh tears welling up in Gabri’s eyes. “You know,” he said softly, “the baby in Mommy’s tummy can hear you right now. If it hears you crying, it’ll be scared of shots too. You need to be brave for your little brother or sister, okay?”
Eileen, clinging to Bryan’s arm, watched Gabri’s reaction with bated breath.
She had spent what felt like hours trying to exin the importance of these shots to Gabri, but her words had fallen on deaf ears. Yesterday, Gabri had beenpletely opposed to the idea of getting a shot. Yet, somehow, Bryan’s simple words just now had managed to make her reconsider the matter.
Gabri’s eyes fixed on Eileen’s belly for a moment, her little brow furrowed in thought. Finally, she looked up at Bryan and asked, “So, we’re still getting that candy, right?”
“Of course, sweetheart! We’ll get two pieces of candy for you,” Bryan replied.
“Can I get three?” Gabri asked.
“Tell you what,” Bryan said, “if you don’t cry, you can get three.”
