?Chapter 1423:
“Got it,” Colby replied with a boastful tone. “Don’t worry, even if I can’t be of any help, I won’t stir up any trouble for you.”
His words were a pointed jab at Amoura, causing her frustration to swell in her chest.
“I’ll head to thepany to reassure the shareholders. You two take care ofyour own tasks,” Javier said as he stood up and walked away without a backward nce.
The moment Javier was gone, Colby shifted in his seat on the sofa, hisid-back attitude reced by a sense of indifference.
“Have you thought about the consequences of agreeing to meet Bryan?” Amoura asked Colby. “Bryan already has his suspicions about us. You’re heading straight into a trap.”
Christos’ lips curled into a sneer. “What’s left for me if I don’t walk right into their trap? I’ve lived under a fake identity and even changed my face. Even if I die, I won’t be Christos anymore. Why should I care about anything else?” Amoura’s breath quickened, emotions swirling in her eyes. She took a moment topose herself before speaking earnestly. “‘We must endure this, or your father’s years of hard work will be wasted. Once we seed, you can establish yourself within the Deleon family. In a few years, when we’re stronger, you can change the Deleon family’sst name. No one will be able to oppose it then.”
“Change it to what?” Christos’ face darkened. “After all, Christos is a wanted man worldwide. In the end, I can never be myself again! I only lived as Christos for a year, wanted by the police, always on the run.”
Despite the hardships, those days had brought him a strange sort of happiness.
He would rather spend his life in hiding and live freely than do this.

“You disagree with my n?” Amoura’s tone grew stern.
Christos stood up, his eyes cold. “‘You don’t need my approval. The moment you tricked me with that ss of milk, you stripped away my choices. I’m just following orders now.”
He turned away, no longer looking at her. “One day, you’ll regret this.”
With that, he stormed off, his footsteps echoing through the room.
Amoura clenched her teeth, hot with frustration, and chased after him into the hallway. “Regret it or not, you’ll still have to do as I say, or I’ll…” She didn’t get the chance to finish her threat before Colby was already down the stairs, leaving her words to hang in the air.
Later that afternoon, Christos set up a meeting with Bryan using the identity of Colby.
When Eileen picked up the phone, she quickly agreed, her grin so wide that it practically reached her ears.
“The fake Colby wants to meet you!” she eximed, tossing the phone aside and rattling off the name of the restaurant.
Bryan shot her a cold, sharp look that made her instantly stiffen.
“What are you so happy about?” His tone wasced with irritation. “1’m not going.”
“You are going,” Eileen said quickly, sensing the tension. “Didn’t you say you nned to leave the office early tonight? You can squeeze in dinner with the fake Colby.” Bryan’s gaze dropped to the floor, and a small smile tugged at his lips as if something amusing had just crossed his mind. “Fine. I’ll have Raymond drive you home then.” Eileen’s face fell in frustration. ‘Come on, you know I want to meet the fake Colby,” she muttered her tone a mix of annoyance and determination. Maybe she could dig out some useful information from him.
The temperature in the office seemed to plummet, growing chilly enough to make Eileen shiver. She hurried around the desk and wrapped her arms around Bryan from behind, leaning her head against his back. “Don’t be jealous. The fake Colby means nothing to me,” she purred. “1t’s only you I’m interested in.”
