Chapter 972

    ?Chapter 972:

“Eileen is more cunning than you think. She slept her way to bing her boss’s special assistant and eventually his wife. Don’t underestimate her!” Kam said. She had thoroughly investigated Eileen since learning of her existence.

Eileen’s adoptive mother had been diagnosed with cancer right after Eileen had graduated from university, a devastating blow that should have ruined her life. Her life was supposed to be marked by hardship, with no money to treat her mother and a troubled family background. Yet, she had managed to ingratiate herself with the Dawson family and rise through the ranks. Her early struggles seemed insignificantpared to her eventual sess.

Now, Eileen wielded significant power in Alverton; she had orchestrated Conroy’s dismissal from the VQ Group within just two months. Her sessful takeover of the Vazquez family showcased her exceptional tactics. Bryan and Eileen’s business empire spanned countless industries, making the Aston family’s assets seem insignificant inparison.

But Kam believed human nature was driven by greed; as long as there was a benefit to be gained, people would seize it. No matter what Eileen said, Kam wouldn’t trust her. She needed to be vignt and take preemptive action.

“Mom, aren’t you overthinking this? Eileen genuinely doesn’t have any intentions of taking the Aston family’s assets,” Tilda’s words were unconvincing, but she couldn’t help trying to reason with her mother.

Kam scrutinized Tilda and then asked pointedly, “Then tell me, why are you still so invested in the Aston family’s matter after getting married? Don’t you want a share of our wealth? If you can covet the Aston family’s assets, why can’t Eileen?”

Tilda’s mouth fell open in shock, and she remained speechless for a long time. She had never actually considered vying for the Aston family’s wealth. Since returning home, Tilda had socialized, worked at her ownpany, and maintained a habit of visiting her mother’s home even after getting married. Over the past few years, she had deeply missed her family and yearned to spend quality time with them.

“Don’t worry; as long as you support your brother in preserving the Aston family’s assets, I’ll ensure you receive your due share. But remember, you’re a woman, so don’t expect too much.” Kam disregarded the surprise still evident in Tilda’s eyes, her expression unyielding.

To her, Tilda’s expression seemed insincere, masking her true thoughts. Tilda put on the coat she had just removed and said, “Mom, I’m deeply hurt that you see me this way. I’ll resign and promise not to interfere with the Aston family’s business from now on.”

With that, she turned and went upstairs, soon returning with a small suitcase. Kam remained apathetic, her gaze cold and unyielding. Tilda, ready to leave, saw Kam still standing there and said sorrowfully, “Mom, you’ve disappointed me greatly. I thought that even if you were distant, you still loved me as much as I love you. I didn’t expect that all you think about is profit. You measure everything and everyone by that.”

    Kam seemed lost in thought.

Tilda continued, “No wonder Dad has been distant to you all these years. People like you, who prioritize interests above all else, are hard to love.”

“Nonsense!” Kam eximed, her anger boiling over. “Am I wrong to think this of you? Even if you won’t admit it, don’t nder others!”

“Whatever you say,” Tilda replied. “But I want to remind you that Dad is unaware of his rtionship with Eileen. Eileen has promised that as long as he doesn’t mention it to her, she won’t take the initiative to tell him that she is his daughter. She won’t acknowledge him.”
