?Chapter 652:
“What about this?” Bryan picked up two jars of sauce. “These are baby-safe. Should we get the sweet one or the salty one?”
Eileen looked at the jars and said pointedly, “She likes sweet. Do they have that?”
As Bryan examined thebels, he caught the deeper meaning in Eileen’s words. He looked up at her and said earnestly, “She must have gotten that from her mother.”
“It’s not from me,” Eileen retorted. “You’re the one who could turn all of Onnd sour with your…”
“That isn’t scary,” Bryan interrupted. “What’s frightening is some people souring themselves and being too proud to admit it.” He put both jars in the shopping cart.
Grinning at Gabri, he added, “Mommy has this bad habit. Make sure you don’t pick it up.”
“She will marry someday.” Eileen leaned on the stroller and yfully poked Bryan’s forehead. “She’ll find someone who loves her more than you ever could. To her, that man will be her entire world, and you’ll be nothing more than a distant memory.”
Bryan stiffened. He turned to look at Eileen with a serious expression. “Do you always wound me with such harsh words, even when you know you’ll be hurt by them?”
Eileen also felt a pang of sadness as she thought back to that day. However, she couldn’t stand seeing Bryan so full of himself at that moment.
Bryan adjusted Gabri’s pacifier, then stood and wrapped his arms around Eileen’s slim waist. With one hand on the stroller and the other on the shopping cart, Bryan moved forward, holding Eileen close.
“Do you need anything else from the supermarket?” he whispered in Eileen’s ear. “I’ll head upstairs and grab it for youter.”
Eileen couldn’t help but smile as she replied, “It’s gettingte. After shopping, we still need to personally prepare some food for Gabri. Let’s wrap up our shopping quickly.”

Though Bryan saw through her pretense, he indulged her. “How about we get some snacks for you?”
“At my age, I don’t need snacks,” Eileen said, but despite her words, her eyes lingered on the snack aisle.
Eileen knew that high school and college years were when girls most craved pampering. But those years had been tough for her, as Ruby could only cover basic living expenses. Ruby had juggled multiple jobs to support the family, leaving no extra money for snacks. Eileen had outgrown that desire and no longer craved such things.
“But I think you’re still very young, especially considering your great figure.” Bryan’s warm, dry hand rested on her waist.
Eileen rolled her eyes at him, though she couldn’t help but smile. Her eyes then traced the prominent veins on the side of his neck and his muscr chest, which looked incredibly appealing. He still felt so familiar to her, but there were many new and strange aspects now. The feeling that he could leave her at any moment created an unease between them.
