Chapter 593

    ?Chapter 593:

Inside a small room, Bryan looked out the window, watching Eileen and Benjamin walk away in the distance. He could make out their figures huddled close together, theirughter faintly reaching his ears.

It was a long night. Bryan sat on the steps outside the house, bathed in the orange glow from the light above. He held a cigarette between his fingers, with several bottles of wine next to him. His gaze was empty.

Jacob and Josue had been standing at the yard’s gate, watching Bryan for a while. Leaning against the doorframe with his hands in his pockets, Jacob nudged Josue with his foot and suggested, “Should we try to talk to him?”

“How do you suggest we do that?” Josue asked. “Tell him he’s going to die someday and that it’s a blessing to see his wife remarry before then?”

Jacob coughed at Josue’s bluntness and cleared his throat. “If Ie across something that troubles me in the future, just keep your distance.”

Josue’s way of persuading someone was clearly not the mostforting.

From a distance, Jacob and Josue kept their eyes on Bryan, concerned about what he might do tonight.

Eileen couldn’t sleep either. As she watched her daughter sleep, her mind was crowded with thoughts. She stared out the window at the moon in the sky.

After midnight, dark clouds gathered, strong winds began to blow, and soon, it started to rain heavily. Raindrops hit against the ss, and the wind was strong enough to snap branches, the sound echoing in the night.

Suddenly, there was a knock at Eileen’s door. She stood and opened it to find Benjamin, standing a good distance away.

“I just got a call from the airline. The flight tomorrow afternoon is canceled due to the strong wind and rain,” Benjamin said.

    They couldn’t leave?

“Got it,” Eileen replied, her face expressionless.

Noticing her alert state, Benjamin asked, “Have you slept at all?”

“No,” Eileen answered, shaking her head. “With this storm, I can’t sleep.”

“But it’s only been stormy for thirty minutes, and it’s already half past two in the morning,” Benjamin pointed out. “Jacob and Josue aren’t here. Just be honest.”

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to be honest with Benjamin, but she kept picturing Bryan as he turned and walked away earlier that day. She was haunted by that image and still felt somewhat dazed.

“I don’t think Bryan can have his wedding tomorrow,” Benjamin said. “So you shouldn’t feel too sad.”

“I’m not sad. In fact, not only am I not sad, but I will go andfort them tomorrow,” Eileen said firmly.

    Benjamin was left without words.

Eileen kept her word. The next day, the storm persisted for more than half the day. Forget about having a wedding—it was even challenging to step outside. Gabri peered out the window at the pouring rain, chattering and eagerly wanting to go out and y in the water.

But with the rain continuing, Eileen had to entertain Gabri inside, which was exhausting. Gabri sometimes wanted to be held, and sometimes she demanded to go to the window to watch the rain. She would point outside asionally.
