    “And what exactly are you trying to keep safe?” Eileen countered. “You know the truth better than anyone.” She could tell he wasn’t nning to soften his stance.


    After a brief pause, she continued, “I’ve passed along the message. How you handle this is your decision.”


    Ending the call, Eileen was about to hand the phone back to Dalores but stopped herself. “I’ll have Benjamin get you a new pher,” she said.


    It was clear that the security of this number waspromised. Any attempt to track Dalores using advanced technology would reveal her location.


    Dalores felt a wave of anxiety at Eileen’s words. “Is it really that serious?” she asked. “I should never have involved you in this. Your safety should be my priority.”


    “If you ever find yourself in trouble and can’t get a hold of Julio, you can always reach out to me,” Eileen said, quickly writing down a new contact number on a piece of paper.


    Dalores had previously only used Eileen’s office number, but this was her personal number.


    Dalores’ lips tightened as she processed the new information. “Thank you, Ms. Curtis,” she said.


    The café was bathed in the warm glow of the autumn sun, with leaves fluttering down from the towering trees outside.


    Z had been waiting for half an hour when her anticipated guest finally arrived.


    Bryan approached, dressed casually with a cap on, his hands tucked into his pockets. He settled into the seat across from Z, easing back into the sofa.


    “So, tell me, who is Travis’ biological father?” he asked.


    “You don’t beat around the bush, do you?” Z remarked, her voiceced with irritation. “If I’m willing to share this with you, it means I’m on your side.”


    “I’m not here to listen to your nonsense,” Bryan said, his patience wearing thin. Yet, he believed Z truly knew the identity of Travis’ biological father, which was why he had agreed to meet.


    Z fell silent. Those two had grilled her about Bryan and Eileen before, demanding she report on their every move. The truth was, Z wasn’t entirely certain of the details regarding Travis’ father’s identity, but she had some idea.


    What she was sure about, however, was the motivation behind the actions of those two people.


    “Let’s make a deal.” Gripping the tablecloth tightly, Z spoke with conviction. “Even though Eileen is the General Manager of the Freguson Group, she won’t be of any help to you. Going up against Travis’ biological father alone is a losing fight. What if you and I teamed up?”


    “What do you want from me?” Bryan asked, already wary of Z’s self-serving nature.


    “Leave Eileen and marry me,” Z dered.
