?Chapter 402:
With Eileen’s help, the unpacking went quickly.
As they worked, Eileen broached another topic. “How are Bailee and Huey doing?”
Ruby sighed heavily as she sat down, the worry evident on her face. “These past few days, Huey has been quite vocal, ining to Bailee that I’m intruding on their life together. He keeps asking when I’m going to leave.”
Ruby’s voice trembled as she recounted overhearing Bailee and Huey arguing about the matter that very morning, which had prompted her to return prematurely.
“Eileen, you are like a daughter to me, but others see things differently,” Ruby exined, a hint of resignation in her voice. “Once you and Bailee are married and Gabri is a bit older, I think I might live with Bailee. But now, look at what’s happening…”
Ruby’s expression conveyed difort more than unhappiness. Huey’s inability to adapt to her presence was causing friction between him and Bailee.
“Mom, they’re still finding their way as a couple. It’s natural for them to want some privacy. Don’t take it to heart. Huey just needs to grow up a bit,” Eileen reassured her, trying to soothe her concerns.
Ruby sighed softly and affectionately squeezed Eileen’s hand. “Let them be. They’re married now. By the way, I noticed a pair of men’s shoes at the entrance.”
Ruby trailed off, her statement hanging in the air as she surmised that Bryan might be in the house.
“He’s upstairs with Gabri,” Eileen exined with a smile. “He mighte downter. I think he’s still a bit anxious, trying to make a good impression.”
Bryan’s recent injury was healing well; the thick bandage had been reced with a thinner one, and his hair, previously shaved for treatment, was beginning to grow back in a somewhat unruly fashion. He had mentioned wanting to look more presentable for Ruby.

Ruby chuckled, her mood lightening. “Weren’t you supposed to have a check-up today? Why don’t you go freshen up? I’ll start cooking so you can head out early.”
“Okay,” Eileen replied and headed upstairs.
Half an hourter, the dining room was filled with a sense of familial warmth. Ruby sat at the head of the table, with Eileen and Bryan—who was carefully holding Gabri—next to her. At the other end sat Milford, quietly observing the family dynamics.
Breaking the silence, Ruby addressed Bryan directly, “You don’t need to be nervous. Since you’re with Eileen, I have no objections.”
Bryan, feeling the pressure of the situation, was slightly formal in his demeanor. He worried thating across too strong might make others ufortable, but he didn’t know how to find the right bnce, resulting in a slightly stiff appearance.
“Ruby, I’m truly sorry for the past troubles I’ve caused Eileen, and for the worry I’ve brought to you,” he said earnestly.
