Chapter 396

    ?Chapter 396:

The overpowering smell of cologne had dissipated, reced by her usual sweet fragrance. Bryan pulled out a chair for her to sit down.

“You need to schedule a hospital visit tomorrow,” Eileen mentioned while eating. “My mother called to say she’s returning tomorrow afternoon. It’s perfect timing. After your checkup, we could go shopping. It’ll be the first formal visit to her since we reconciled.”

Bryan poured her a ss of water, casually inquiring, “So, will you be able to join me at the hospital tomorrow?”

“Huh?” Eileen paused with a mouthful of noodles, suddenly stopping. She lifted her gaze slightly and noticed Bryan’s earnest expression.

Why did it seem a bit off?

She swallowed the noodles in her mouth and then said, “I stayedte at work today to finish some tasks, so I can take tomorrow off to apany you to the hospital.”

Bryan smiled and pushed the bowl of noodles toward her. “You’ve worked hard, eat up.”

Just then, Eileen’s phone suddenly lit up.

Before Bryan could get a clear look, Eileen quickly grabbed her phone. A friend request had appeared on WhatsApp. She remembered lending a hundred dors to someone earlier that evening, so she epted the request.

Without any conversation, the other person transferred the hundred dors and included a message: “Thank you, Eileen. You are truly beautiful and kind-hearted!”

Eileen didn’t respond. She simply received the money and set her phone aside.

She had grabbed her phone quickly, thinking it might be work-rted. At the moment, she didn’t think anything was wrong. But as she ced her phone down, she suddenly caught Bryan’s piercing stare. It dawned on her that something might be off with him.

“We should go get married,” Bryan stated seriously. “You won’t betray me and break my heart in the future, will you?”

Eileen was taken aback. Shouldn’t she have been the one to ask that question?

She moistened her lips and replied, “As soon as I find the time, we’ll go to City Hall to tie the knot. But shouldn’t I be the one asking if you won’t betray me?”

With his hands in his pockets, he leaned against a chair and looked down at her with a grave expression. “But now, you’re the one making money and supporting the family.”

His implication was clear: now that Eileen had be the primary earner, others might see it as a reason for her to stray.

“I enjoy the spaghetti you make.” Eileen savored the noodles with her eyes nearly closed, looking utterly content. “You’re handsome, powerful, and wealthy; there’s no reason for me to leave you.”
