Chapter 1650:
The instant those words left his mouth, the room turned cial. Every breath seemed to echo off the walls, the silence punctuated only by Josh’s ragged exhale.
“My mother…” A tremor flickered across Dani’s face as she ground the walnut in her fist until it snapped in half with a sharp crack. Her voice dropped to a chilling whisper. “You dare bring up my mother?”
Across the room, Hamilton caught the wild, flickering turmoil in Dani’s gaze—a storm of fury and old wounds. Beneath the surface, her rage churned, barely restrained.
“Dani…” Hamilton’s voice faltered, barely more than a whisper, but she didn’t even nce his way.
Suddenly, Dani’s head snapped back as a cruel, eerieugh escaped her lips. For a moment, every person in the office braced themselves, certain Dani would annihte Josh on the spot. However…
Dani leaned in close and murmured a few words to Carol.
Carol gave a crisp nod and slipped out of the office without another word.
Josh narrowed his eyes, wary of the sly, knowing curve tugging at Dani’s lips. “What’s that supposed to mean? Where did you send your assistant?”
Lounging back on the sofa, Dani let out a low, unhurriedugh—nothing extravagant, just enough to chill the air between them and make Josh’s skin crawl.
He shivered involuntarily, his bravado faltering. “What’s with that look? Why the hell are you grinning at me like that?”
The other McCoy brothers watched her with open unease, convinced Dani had finally snapped.
Hamilton’s brows furrowed with concern. “Dani, are you sure you’re all right?”
Brad tried to smooth things over, his tone cating. “Josh’s words are just a bunch of bullshit. Dani, don’t let him get under your skin.”
Ethan, never one for confrontation, ventured a tentative suggestion. “Maybe we should call it a day before things go any further?”

A sly smile still curling on her lips, Dani plucked up an apple and, with unsettling calm, began stripping its skin with Josh’s dagger.
She lifted her gaze to pin Josh with a sharp, menacing re. “I was going to let you off easy, Josh, but since you’re so desperate for an ending, I’ll give you one. We’re done here. Get out.”
Though every single person in the room agreed this nightmare of a meeting had to end, not a soul dared budge after Dani’s icy dismissal.
“Dani, what the hell is that supposed to mean?” A ripple of unease swept through Josh; it felt like she was tightening a around his throat—either she’d bury him today, or she’d go down with him.
Dani didn’t bother to respond. Her fingers moved with eerie calm, paring rough strips from the apple, the de skipping jaggedly over its skin—clearly, she was more practiced at carving flesh than fruit.
Atst, her patience snapped. With a flick of her wrist, she stabbed the apple straight through, the knife quivering upright from the table.
She plucked a damp tissue from the box, cleaning her hands with deliberate slowness. Lifting her gaze, she swept the room with a level, challenging stare. “Well? Still standing around? nning to make yourselves at home?”
