?Chapter 1553:
Only a few minutes passed before a sudden knock rattled him.
Damon stood in the doorway.
Niks asked, “What are you doing back here?”
Damon retorted, “How could I just sit back with all this going on? So, what’s the n? And why are you packing? Are we all making a run for it?”
Niks nodded. “Yeah, once the car’s here, I’ll have the driver take them away.”
Damon nodded in understanding. “So it’s just the two of us staying behind?”<fna827> Updates are released by f?i?n?d?n?o?v?e?l?</fna827>
Niks paused mid-motion. “That’s right. Dad only arranged for the driver to get me, you, and Cedric out—just the three of us. Let Cedric, Dani, and Carol leave. We’ll stay put.”
Both he and Damon were part of the McCoy family. No one would dare cross that line and kill them.
Still, Niks struggled to piece everything together. How had a few harsh words turned into all-out chaos? Even so, his mind was made up.
In the living room, Carol sat quietly as Niks approached. “Go pack your things.”
Carol slowly looked up, meeting Niks’ eyes.
Niks exined, “My dad called. My uncle’s guards areing tonight. You need to leave, right now.”
Carol had always expected the McCoy family to take drastic measures, but Niks’ words still surprised her. Just a little while ago, he’d acted like none of this was serious.
Carol stayed silent for a few seconds before saying, “Your dad doesn’t really care what happens to me or Dani. He just wants you and Damon out safely, and maybe Cedric if there’s room.” She guessed it perfectly.
Niks gave a tight nod. “You three should get out. Damon and I will be fine. We’re part of the McCoy family. No one’s going to kill us.”

Carol tilted her head, her voice t. “Is that so? Because the information I’ve got says the hit’s scheduled for midnight, no exceptions. Everyone’s a target. That’s the same intel your dad received, right? Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been in such a rush to send someone to pick you up.”
Carol met Niks’ gaze, her voice cutting straight to the point. “Why are you doing this?”
Truthfully, Niks was asking himself the same question. He had always been the type to steer clear of danger, mocking any kind of reckless bravery. Yet here he was, choosing to stay behind.
Niks looked away, difort written all over his face. “Just go, Carol. Get out of here while you still can.”
A long pause followed before Carol spoke again. “You two n on staying here to act as decoys, don’t you? The attackers won’t know at first. Maybe they’ll figure out you’re part of the McCoy family after the shooting starts, and you’ll only get injured. But what if they don’t realize it in time?”
Carol fixed Niks with a hard look. “You could die. Tell me, Niks, why? You’re thest person I’d expect to risk everything. What’s making you take this risk all of a sudden? Why pull Damon into this, too?”
Niks stood there, fists clenched, unable to respond.
Carol studied the turmoil on his face for a moment before turning her attention back to the television.
