    Niks and Damon stared at her in disbelief. Challenging Hamilton was something they’d never imagined Dani would actually do.


    Damon stepped forward, concern written all over his face.


    “Dani, you have no idea what my father’s capable of. He’s turned hopeless situations around more times than I can count. He’s got years of experience, doesn’t mind ying dirty, and when he decides to get serious, he’s a nightmare.”


    Niks kept his thoughts to himself, silently taking it all in.


    Damon pressed on, his worry in as day.


    “And don’t forget where you are—this is Oiscoll, and the McCoy family basically runs things here. You knocked my father off his perch as the world’s richest today, and you’d better believe he’s furious. If you’re smart, you’ll back down.”


    Niks chimed in, “Going up against him isn’t just another business rivalry. Over the years, plenty of powerful people have tried to take him down, but every single one failed. You won’t be an exception.”


    Noticing how unfazed Dani was, Damon quickly turned to Cedric.


    “Cedric, you have to talk some sense into her. I’m telling you the truth—she can’t hold a candle to our father. He built McCoy Group from scratch and poured his whole soul into it. Thepany is everything to him, and if he thinks you’re a threat, he won’t hesitate to crush you.”


    Niks waited a moment before adding his own words, hoping to sway Cedric.


    “Back when you two were sick, I remember a handful of people looking hopeful, ready to seed. But every time, they were stopped cold. Some even wound up so desperate, they took their own lives. Cedric, we’re saying this because we want the best for you.”


    A note of worry crept into Damon’s face.


    Both men seemed convinced that Dani was simply too inexperienced, too delicate to withstand the kind of brutal force Hamilton could unleash. Before Dani could answer, the chime of the doorbell cut through the tension. The housekeeper answered, then came back with a message for Dani.


    “Ms. Harper, there’s a visitor at the door. I asked for his name, and he said he’s with McCoy Group.”


    Rising from her seat, Dani headed for the entryway.


    Damon darted ahead, already anxious to confront the new arrival.


    From where she stood, Dani heard Damon’s startled greeting, “Joseph, what brings you here?”


    Joseph’s face was all business.


    “I’m here for Dani.”


    Damon’s expression hardened.


    “Is this visit on behalf of my father?”


    With a curt nod, Joseph’s eyes shifted from Damon to Dani as she stepped forward to join them.


    This marked Joseph’s third encounter with Dani.


    On every asion, she left him with the same impression—delicate in frame, distant in manner, and bearing a regal air that set her apart from the rest.
