Chapter 1437

    ?Chapter 1437:

Damon, who was usually the most rxed person in any room, now spoke with a passion that stunned those around him. Even the driver up front stole a nce at him through the rearview mirror, clearly surprised.

Kohen, however, let out a quiet chuckle. “That was a fine speech, Damon. But have you ever stopped to wonder if someone in our family might’ve been behind the explosion?”

Damon opened his mouth, ready to argue that their father would never go that far, but Kohen didn’t give him the chance. “If it really wasn’t one of us, then why was Cedric not there when it happened? He’s Dani’s legal husband. He stands to inherit everything she owns. If someone wanted to destroy everything she built, don’t you think killing Cedric would’ve been part of the n? Why did they pick the—”

“…exact window when Cedric was away? It’s because someone already knew that Cedric is a McCoy. Someone made sure not to harm him on purpose. With facts like that, can you really im our family had no hand in this?”

Those words hit Damon like a p. He couldn’t speak. He couldn’t even move.

Kohen gave a coldugh and casually dusted off his sleeve. “You’re still a McCoy, Damon. No matter what, that bloodline stays with you. Dani won’t go easy on you if the truth everes out. So whether you realize it or not, you’ve already chosen a side. You’re already Dani’s enemy.”

A weight dropped in Damon’s chest. Scenes from his time at Dani’s ce came rushing back without warning. He remembered the way Dani and Cedric had treated him—with nothing but kindness. And the moment he imagined himself standing against them, his stomach turned.

Even the thought of food made him feel sick.

The moment Kohen stepped into the vi, Cedric leaned in close to Dani and whispered, “Looks like the real undercover agent has finally shown up.”

Dani smiled mockingly as she turned to Josie and said, “You’d better start paying closer attention to what’s being served.”

    ?????????? ?????????? ?????????????? at ????????ν????????????

Josie’s gaze drifted to Kohen, who had just entered and gave a small nod of understanding.

Damon trailed in behindzily, dragging his feet and avoiding Dani’s eyes. “I already ate. I’m just gonna head to my room.”

“Already full? Really?” Kohen chuckled. “Weren’t you the one saying you were starving on the way here? Dani, I got kicked out too. How about taking me in as well? I won’t ask for much; just a simple room will do.”

Dani said nothing, sat, and began to eat. Cedric didn’t say a word either.

Kohen grinned. “No reply? I assume that’s a yes, then?”

At the table, Carol said to Damon, “What happened? You look like someone beat you bloody. Did you get chewed out at home? Come on, let’s eat together.”

Damon stared at the te, his head down, poking at his food without appetite.

Then, Dani asked, “What are you looking at? Eat. Or is barbecue not to your taste?”

Damon shook his head, a sudden lump rising in his throat. For a moment, he felt like he might cry. His idol, Dani, was so kind, yet it was possible his own family had been responsible for her child’s death. If Dani ever found out, would she turn on him, too? Would she regret offering him kindness?
