Chapter 1744

    ?Chapter 1744:

Unaware of the group’s mixed emotions, Virginia cheerfully pushed open the creaking door, dashed inside, and called out, “Dad, Mom, Ms. Sanderson is here! She’se to visit us and my grandma…”

Dragging their belongings behind them, the group followed into the meticulously cleaned yet dpidated house, their expressions growing moreplex.

“Harlee, my parents are likely in the fields. I’ll go call them. Please, make yourselffortable,” Virginia said before rushing out.

Meanwhile, Ulises had been summoned early on to assist at the vige chief’s house. As the crowd of vigers dispersed, only Harlee and herpanions remained in the Swain family’s humble abode.

Robbie nced around before his gaze settled on Harlee, who was seated on a wooden chair. He asked quietly, “Harlee, was Nyomi’s life always this tough?” Harlee met his eyes, her expressionposed, and replied slowly, “I wasn’t aware during my time with the Gill family, and even less so with the Sandersons.”

Nyomi had always spoken of her family’s life as joyful, leaving Harlee oblivious to the reality of their struggles. A heavy silence fell over the group.

Eventually, Virginia returned with her parents. They were simple, honest-looking farmers, a stark contrast to their former roles as servants in the Gill family.

    “Ms. Sanderson, how could you…”

Virginia’s parents, Deniz and Ivy Swain, said, their faces marked by awkwardness.

Harlee looked down briefly, then stood and addressed them in a gentle, measured tone, “I came to pay my respects to Nyomi. Mr. Swain, Mrs. Swain, am I intruding?”

    “No, no…”

Deniz and Ivy responded quickly, shaking their heads.

Ivy then added eagerly, “I’ll go prepare some flowers, and we can visit her graveter.”

Ivy hurried off to arrange the flowers, while Deniz stood by silently.

Aware that Deniz was unlikely to initiate a conversation about Nyomi, Harlee took the lead, asking, “Was Nyomi in pain before she passed?”

“No, she died peacefully in her sleep,” he replied.

“That’s good to hear,” Harlee murmured, a trace of relief in her tone. It was a smallfort that Nyomi had not suffered in her final moments.

After paying respects at Nyomi’s grave, Harlee and Robbie sat quietly in the Swain family courtyard, weighed down by the day.

Just then, Harlee’s phone rang. It was Rhys on the line.

That day, Hazel had returned home in tears, distorting the truth and prompting her mother, Eloise Wace, to demand Ivy take action against Virginia. Despite Eloise’s disdain for the Swain family, considering them beneath her, she waspelled to act when her daughter imed to have been mistreated.

“Hazel, is it?” A sinister smile crossed Harlee’s face, her eyes sparking with resolve.

“Let’s see what the Wace family is made of.”

Rhys was also taken aback by the Wace family’s audacity. He had urgently called to ensure Harlee would return to the hotel tonight.

“Alright, I’ll leave it to you. I’ll expect you back tonight to sort this out.”

His tone was soothing, reminiscent of a gentle spring day.

    “When will you be back?”

    “Soon.”

With that brief reply, Harlee ended the call.

Rhys rubbed his brow and nced at Patrick, who was nearby.

    “Did you catch all that?”

    Patrick nodded gravely.

“Yes, I’ll take care of it right away.”

Rhys gestured for Patrick to go ahead and then returned his attention to his paperwork.
