"I''m so sleepy," Tessa murmured in a soft voice.
Thepany executives who were present in the meeting room could not hear
what Tessa was saying on the other end of the line, but they could see how
Stephen''s eyes had softened, a stark contrast to his normally stoic and cold
demeanor.
The executives who had almost nodded off were suddenly jolted awake. They
would never have imagined that they would be able to witness something
scandalous just by attending a meeting.
It was exciting to see how Stephen, who typically seemed repulsed by most
women, treated his girlfriend with fondness and affection.
The executives in the meeting room wore various expressions, but one person''s
expression twisted in annoyance. This was, of course, referring to Hazel Everhart,
Jacobson Corporation''s newly appointed director of the nning department.
Stephen seemed like a different person when he conversed with Tessa over the
phone. He was patient and warm-theplete opposite of the image that Hazel
had of him. Stephen was supposed to be aloof and strict. He didn''t smile and
treated everyone icily, keeping everyone at an arm''s length.
By now, she had worked at Jacobson Corporation for half a month. She hadn''t
spoken a word to Stephen that wasn''t rted to work. She had tried to get his
contact information but had failed to do so. Thus, she was forced to contact his
assistant, Samson, when she needed tomunicate with Stephen.
Hazel curled her hand into a tight fist when she saw how Stephen was showing off
his loving rtionship with Tessa in front of everyone without a care in the world.
Her heart was filled with dissatisfaction.
When Tessa finally got out of bed, Stephen had even gently asked her if she
wanted to have lunch together in the afternoon. However, his suggestion seemed
to have been rejected since his voice took on a disappointed tone. He then asked,
"Are you free tonight?"
"I have to go home tonight," Tessa replied.
Of course, she was referring to the Yates residence.
"Alright, then."
When the people in the meeting room heard Stephen''s response, they couldn''t
help but wonder if he had been rejected, not once but twice.
Hazel''s face darkened. She wondered when Stephen had gotten together with
this girlfriend of his.
When she arrived at Jacobson
Corporation, she snooped around
and discovered that Stephen was
single. Who was the one who had
struck first and snatched Stephen
away from right under her nose?
...
Samuel and a few of his business partners were sharing a meal in a VIP private
room. After they had discussed business, they began to chat idly about other
things.
"Congrattions, Samuel," a Medicenean man who looked to be in his 50s said
with a grin.
Samuel looked at him with confusion written all over his face. "Why are you
congratting me?"
The man said, "Your family is about to receive some splendid news."
"What splendid news?"
"Look at you still ying dumb with
me. Obviously, I''m talking about the
marriage between your daughter
and the Jacobson family''s son.
Bing inws with the
Jacobsons is a splendid thing, so
why are you still trying to hide it
from us?"
Samuel was stunned for a moment before his face hardened. "Who told you that
we''re going to be inws with the Jacobsons?"
Seeing how Samuel''s expression had darkened, the man was also stunned
momentarily.
"Don''t you know that your daughter is dating the heir of the Jacobson family? Two
days ago, my little rascal of a son attended Marissa Scott''s birthday party.
"He saw how Tessa and Stephen
were glued to the hip with his own
two eyes. He''s not the only one too.
Many other people saw them
together. Don''t tell me that you didn''t
know about this?"
Samuel said nothing in response, but his face had turned as dark as night.
Realizing that the current topic of conversation was going in a strange direction,
the man quickly changed the subject.
