Gideon found himself in the hospital, courtesy of a few stitches in his head thanks to his friends'' timely intervention. They gathered around him, some patting his shoulder, others offering words offort.
"Hey, buddy, maybe be a little more cautious next time, yeah?"
"That was Ss, after all, and Calliope had a point. The Baker Group wouldn''t be where it is today without Ss''s help!"
"Ss sure has some skills. If it weren''t for him, the Baker family wouldn''t have such a strong footing in Capitalton."
"Even though he''s running thepany, the Baker Group is thriving. Maybe it''s best to let this one go."
"Yeah, Gideon, don''t dwell on Calliope. Did you see how hard she went on you? Who knew Calliope was such a force to reckon with!"
"She seems pretty protective of Ss. Looks like she''s really fallen for him!"
Listening to his friends'' advice only made Gideon''s head throb more. He was frustrated. "How could she fall for him so quickly?"
"Love''s unpredictable like that. Either way, you''re getting married tomorrow. Go home and get some rest. Make sure the wedding goes smoothly!"
"Yeah, and you should find some time to apologize to Ss."
"Ss is quite capable, and he''s the one calling the shots in the Baker family. Your future might just depend on him!"
"Try to clear the air, maybe even aim for the heir''s spot!"
Gideon chuckled lightly. He wasn''t sure if Ss ever really considered him a contender for the heir''s position. But he doubted that just exining himself would win back that spot.
Ss probably held a grudge now. Yet, he really wanted to win Calliope back.
"Gideon, get some rest tonight. Make sure the wedding goes well tomorrow!"
"It''ste. Just chalk it up to a night of drinking. Sleep it off, and forget about today!"
"Where are you heading tonight? Let me give you a ride."
After a brief discussion, his friends drove Gideon back to his ce.
Meanwhile, Calliope and Ss returned home.
Ss watched Calliope the whole ride back, his gaze so intense that it made her uneasy.
"Why are you staring at me?" Calliope finally asked when they got home.
"Why''d you hit Gideon so hard? His wedding''s tomorrow." Ss''s eyes were still locked on her, his lips curled into a slight, amused smile.
"He badmouthed you. Of course, I had to put him in his ce," Calliope replied matter-of-factly. "You''ve done so much for the Baker family, and he acts like he can''t see that, using you of trying to take over the family fortune."
She hadn''t known about all this until Eamon told her. It turned out Ss had never
spent a dime of the Baker family''s money.
Even though Eamon had raised him,
Ss had always been sharp, dabbling in stocks from a young
age. He made his own money,
earned his keep. Eamon had mo
been a guiding hand, protecting him when necessary, but never
financially supporting him.
Eamon believed it was the Baker family that owed Ss. He wanted to hand everything over to Ss, but Ss had never asked for it. He remained grateful, treating Eamon like a father. He respected Eamon deeply and constantly worked to assist him.
