Chapter 229

Half an hourter, the barista from the café knocked on the door and walked in with a bag of goodies.

Out of politeness, a colleague handed the first cup of coffee to Bridget.

"Ms. Simpson, you should try this first. They say the beans from this ce are top-notch."

Bridget eyed the coffee, which was more ice than liquid, and took a deep breath. Meanwhile, Bailey and Sylvia had already taken the cup and was sipping it with obvious enjoyment.

"Mmm, this is really good," Sylvia remarked with a satisfied sigh.

Bridget gingerly took a small sip, holding the coffee in her mouth for a moment before swallowing. "Yeah, it''s pretty good."

A colleague, who had never been fond of Bridget''s seemingly perfect demeanor, couldn''t resist a snarkyment. "Ms. Simpson, just a tiny sip? Don''t you like the coffee we picked?"

Bridget''s public persona was all about being graceful and approachable, which had won her a legion of online fans. In her past life, she had expertly used the support of these unsuspecting fans to sway public opinion, ensuring that both the Garcia family and the public were on her side.

Now, if she dared to show even a hint of dislike, Sylvia wouldn''t need to say a word—there''d be plenty of others in the office eager to spin the story.

Conscious of her image, Bridget took a deep breath, lifted her cup, and started gulping down the coffee like she was on a mission.

She managed to drink half of it in one go, putting on an act of analysis afterward. "These beans are definitely from abroad, really rich vor."

Sylvia hid her amusement behind her coffee cup, suspecting that Bridget hadn''t even tasted the coffee before it slid down her throat.

Let''s see how she handles it.

Within the hour, even foundation and blush couldn''t hide Bridget''s pallor. She bit her lip, trying to power through it.

It was clear she had taken something, but it wasn''t working smoothly.

Eventually, Bridget couldn''t take it any longer. Seizing a moment when everyone was busy with their work, she discreetly slipped out.

    Sylvia followed closely behind.

She needed to find out why Bridget was so desperate to keep this pregnancy a secret. Maybe one day, this knowledge would be her trump card.

Bridget headed to the farthest corner of the office, a storage room filled with props used forpany events. It was a ce no one visited without reason.

Sylvia stopped outside the door, straining her ears to catch the faint sounds of Bridget''s soft groans and the dialing of her phone.

In the quiet of the corridor, she could even hear the voice on the other end of the line.

    "Ms. Simpson."

It was the doctor who had prescribed Bridget the medication.

"Why does it hurt so much after taking the pills?" Bridget asked, her voice strained.

    "Ms. Simpson, medication-induced

abortion is the most discreet method, the doctor exined. "Surgical procedures would leave records, but the pills can indeed be painful. You''ll need to rest.  swnovel

"But there''s so much bleeding, and the paines in waves. I feelpletely drained," Bridget said, her voice weak.

"Ms. Simpson, medication-induced abortion usually takes three to four days. You should wait a bit longer. If it''s still like this after four days,e to the hospital," the doctor advised.  swnovel

"Useless! I paid you so much, and you can''t even handle this? Am I supposed to

endure this pain indefinitely?" Bridget spat, her frustration evident.

"Ms. Simpson, there''s nothing more I can do. Hospitals areworked now. Medications can be picked up by a rtive, but surgery requires identity verification. Small clinics aren''t safe."  swnovel

In this digital age, with Bridget being a public figure, news of a surgical abortion would be all over the inte within a day.

Bridget was so frustrated she nearly threw her phone. Instead, she curled up in

the corner, trying to endure the pain.

Outside the door, Sylvia pondered. Why was Bridget so terrified of anyone knowing about this child?

Could it be that her suspicions were correct?
