Stewart let out a sharpugh of disbelief. "The sheer audacity of these people."
Their client had no idea what Stewart was referring to and looked at him in confusion. Stewart just waved it off with a smile. "It''s nothing."
The client might have been in the dark, but Charlene understood perfectly.
First, there was Dalton Ramirez, and now this Director Lancaster. Both of them had taken it upon themselves to march up to her and demand justice on behalf of Vesta Hawkins.
If that wasn''t audacity, what was?
Meanwhile, in a private dining room nearby.
Vesta had just found out what Corinne had done.
She couldn''t help but say, "You really didn''t need to—"
"I know," Corinne interrupted with a smile. "It wasn''t entirely just for you. I just got back to the city, I was a little bored, and I figured I''d find some entertainment."
Vesta knew that, deep down, Corinne had still done it for her. She smiled softly. "Thank you."
"Do we really need to say things like that between us?" Corinneughed, her eyes sparkling. "I have to admit, after pulling that stunt yesterday, I''m still in a fantastic mood today. She actually thought I was genuinely there to discuss a partnership with them, haha!"
Vesta offered a faint smile.
Corinne''s smile widened as she raised an eyebrow. "By the way, didn''t you mention that Gaylord Hearst deliberately joined PrimeStar to help you get back at her? How is that going? I didn''t see him when I was there yesterday."
At the mention of Gaylord, Vesta''s hand paused halfway to her mouth with her soup spoon. After a heavy beat, she finally spoke. "He... he fell in love with Charlene."
Corinne froze. "How is that even possible? Maybe "
"It''s true," Vesta said quietly.
Corinne was stunned into silence again. From Vesta''s tone, she knew it wasn''t a joke.
Her brows pulled together in genuine astonishment.
In her mind, Gaylord was an
incredibly stubborn and arrogant man. you man. Given how deeply he had been
infatuated with Vesta, how could
someone like him just effortlessly
change his feelings and fall for someone else?
Let alone Charlene Ross?
From what she had seen, Charlene was pretty enough, but aside from her looks, there wasn''t anything uniquely striking about her. By all logic, she shouldn''t be Gaylord''s type at all.
After a long moment, Corinne finally snapped out of it. "I definitely didn''t expect her to be in such high demand."
She barely knew Stewart Ferguson.
But Stewart''s reputation was well-known to her.
Charlene had undoubtedly told Stewart about the stunt she pulled at PrimeStar yesterday. When they bumped into each other at the entrance, the look Stewart had shot her wasced with absolute ice.
It was clear he cared deeply for Charlene.
Neither Gaylord nor Stewart were ordinary men; they were both exceptionally brilliant. Yet they had both fallen for Charlene? How could she not be surprised?
The two women chatted for a while longer. As they finished their meal and were preparing to leave, Vesta checked her phone. "Thorne just texted. He''s free tonight, so he''ll be at your wee dinner."
Corinne smiled. "Good. He''s been
incredibly helpful in pulling strings for my return to Starfall City. I really need to thank him properly." She paused, her smile turning teasing. "But of course, the only reason hels witing to help me so much is
because of you."
"Alright, stop making fun of me," Vesta said softly. "You two are already good
friends. Even without me, Thorne would have helped you anyway."
...
That afternoon, while Charlene was busy at work, she suddenly received a call from Jasmine. Her daughter informed her that Thorne had just called and said he was taking her to meet a friend of is who had just returned from abroad. Because of this, Jasmine wouldn''t be able to stay for dinner at the Ross family home.
