Chapter 1737

    ?Chapter 1737:

Belinda let out a quiet, knowing sigh. “We’ve seen glimpses of her true nature before,” she said evenly, “but I never imagined she’d stoop so low. When she faced real danger, her mask slipped, and what came out was nothing short of selfish and cruel.”

Bethany let out a resigned sigh. “Absolutely. Honestly, even as an outsider, I feel for Mrs. Wright. I can’t begin to fathom the kind of pain she must’ve endured at that time.”

Lucas cast a quick nce toward the corridor and said with purpose, “Let’s head over to the Cardiac Surgery Department.”

Bethany gave a firm nod, her expression sharpening with urgency. “Yes, let’s go. Belinda needs to sort out everything about tomorrow’s surgery.”

With that, Lucas, Bethany, and Belinda set off toward the Cardiac Surgery Department, their footsteps brisk and purposeful.

Car had just lied to Belinda.

One of the gashes on her neck ran rmingly deep, and the doctor had strongly advised hospitalization.

But unwilling to add to Belinda’s worry, she had told Belinda that her injury was minor. Back in the hospital room, the atmosphere shifted the moment she stepped inside.

“Mom.” Kylee rose quickly from the sofa, her voice soft yet uncertain. She moved toward Car instinctively, her hand lifting halfway to steady her. But then, she seemed to have thought of something and withdrew her hand.

Without sparing her a nce, Car crossed the room in silence, picked up her hospital gown, and walked straight into the bathroom to change, the door clicking shut behind her.

After changing, Car eased herself onto the hospital bed.

Kylee sat down quietly in the chair beside the bed, her teeth sinking into her lower lip, guilt shadowing her features.

She stared at Car for a long moment, her fingers knotting nervously in herp before she finally spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. “Mom… I’m sorry.” Her words trembled in the stillness of the room. “I know what I did today hurt you. I realize my mistake now. But please believe me, I didn’t mean to do it. I was too scared—terrified, actually—and I just panicked. That’s why I acted that way and said those things.”

She leaned forward, desperation woven into her tone. “I’m so sorry, Mom. I know I was wrong. Could you find it in your heart to forgive me?”

As she spoke, her voice quivered, ced with the tremble of an impending sob. Hearing that, Car turned her head, her expressionposed and indifferent as she locked eyes with Kylee.

“Didn’t mean to do it? Is that what you’re going with?” She let the words hang in the air for a beat before continuing, her tone cutting. “In a moment of crisis, the mask always slips. What you did, that was the real you. No pretenses.” A bitter smile tugged at the corner of her lips. “You were scared—I get that. But just because you were terrified, does that make it right to shove me toward the robbers?”

Her eyes didn’t waver, piercing through Kylee like a de. “And those words you said—what did you mean by them? Were you trying to convince the robbers to take me instead of you?”

As Car spoke, the mockery in her gaze sharpened, the weight of disappointment etched across her face, evident.
