Chapter 1718:
Faye nearly mentioned she had driven here and could get Lucas home, but she caught herself, swallowing the words. She simply nodded her agreement.
Vincent started toward the unconscious Lucas, then stopped as his phone’s sharp ring cut through the quiet. He retrieved the device and pressed it to his ear. “Hello?”
Whatever voice reached him through the speaker drained the color from his face. “What? How is that even possible?”
After a moment, he said, “Fine. I understand. I’m heading there now.”
He ended the call and turned to Faye, frustration written across his features. “I’m sorry, Faye. An emergency has erupted at mypany that demands my immediate attention. I can’t drive you and Lucas home now. Let me arrange a designated driver for you.”
Faye declined the offer with gentle but firm resolve. “That won’t be necessary, Vincent. Handle your emergency—it sounds serious. I can take Uncle Lucas home myself. My car’s outside, and I haven’t touched a drop of alcohol tonight. I can drive.”
Vincent hesitated, his brow creasing with uncertainty. “I’m not sure about this…”
Faye offered him a gentle smile. “Trust me. I’ll drive carefully. We’ll be fine.” Her lips pressed into a thin line, betraying a trace of apprehension. “Besides, having a stranger drive me home at this hour wouldn’t be very safe.”
Her reasoning left little room for argument. Vincent nodded. “All right, then. Get Lucas home safely, and please—drive with extra caution.”
“You have my word,” Faye replied.<fn0846> Content originallyes from Find?Novel</fn0846>
“I will get him to your car.” Vincent moved to where Lucasy sprawled, hoisted him up with considerable effort, and led him out of the room.
After sessfully maneuvering Lucas into the passenger seat of Faye’s car, Vincent stepped back and exhaled deeply from the exertion. His final instructions carried the weight of genuine concern. “Once you arrive at the house, contact Belinda immediately. She’ll help you get Lucas inside. You won’t be able to manage his weight alone.”

Faye slid behind the steering wheel and nodded. “Okay. We’ll leave now. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Vincent remained on the sidewalk, watching as the car’s taillights disappeared into the night. His eyes then narrowed with contemtion. He retrieved his phone and ced a call.
“How did it go?” the voice on the other end asked the moment the call connected.
