Chapter 1640

    Chapter 1640:

Belinda and Gwenda sat in silence. Belinda’s chest felt heavier now. She had suspected as much, but hearing it confirmed still left her feeling pain.

“We already know that,” Belinda said atst, her voice low and calm. “You can leave now.”

Holley froze, stunned by the t dismissal. She had not anticipated Belinda’sposure. The cold, measured response caught her off guard.

After all the effort she had poured into crafting a reason to show up—into justifying this sudden visit—Holley was not ready to walk away empty-handed.

“Belinda… Mom…” Her voice faltered. “Are you still angry with me?”

Belinda raised her gaze and met Holley’s eyes without blinking. Then she let out a sharpugh, one void of warmth. “Angry? I stopped thinking about you a long time ago. But seeing you now? That has reignited my anger.”

The chill in her tone drained the color from Holley’s face.

Before Holley could say something, Belinda’s voice cut in again, cool and pointed. “Miss Lewis—did you not always say those hormone injections were for my own good? If that is true, why were you so afraid of Sarai’s threats? Wasn’t it all for my benefit? What exactly were you so desperate to hide?”

Holley found herself momentarily at a loss for words once more.

After a while, she gently bit her lower lip and said, “I convinced myself I was doing it for your own good, but deep down, I know my choices may be hard for you to understand. I only gave in to Sarai’s threats because I hoped to avoid a wedge forming between you and me.”

Belinda let out augh, cold as frost. “Oh, your reasoning is truly impressive. You and Sarai joined hands against Lucas and me. And you’re not worried it would drive a wedge between us? You’re my mother. You know how much Lucas means to me. Even so, you still chose this path. Isn’t it because, deep inside, you never cared about me to begin with? So, everything you’re saying now only sounds hollow to me. It’s downright sickening.”

Her voice had turned as frigid as winter wind by the time she finished speaking. Holley tried to respond, but the words caught in her throat. She couldn’t find an excuse that didn’t sound fake.

“I believe you’ve said your piece. No need to drag this out. Please leave now,” Belinda said, making it clear she wanted Holley gone.<fn5> Updates are released by find[f]ovel</fn5>

Holley stayed silent, her eyes drifting toward Gwenda in a silent plea, hoping she might speak up for her.

But Gwenda remained still—no words, not even a nce at her. It became clear that she waspletely disappointed in Holley.

As Holley lingered, unmoving, Belinda spoke again, her tone sharper. “Still not leaving? Shall I get someone to show you out?”

“Belinda…” Holley’s voice trembled with resignation. “Do you really despise me so much?”

Belinda gave a soft chuckle—t, emotionless. “Despise you? No. I just don’t see any reason to waste my time on you anymore.”

Once again, Holley was rendered speechless. This time, she said nothing. After casting onest look at Belinda, then at Gwenda, she turned and left—slowly, and with great reluctance.
