Did Yvonne just call him delusional ?
"Yeah, that''s right, I''m out of my mind! But why don''t you stop and think about what you''ve done to me these past weeks?" Dan''s voice was raw with anger. "You seriously want to tell me you didn''t raid ck Gate just for your own personal vendetta? And now you stand here acting innocent! You and Xander made off with a fortune—don''t you think it''s only fair you hand it all back, now that it turns out I did nothing to you?"
Dan was practically shaking with fury. The memory of all Yvonne''s sabotage-how she''d hit back at him, how ck Gate was left bleeding-made his blood boil all over again. He was determined to reim every single thing she and Xander had grabbed. As far as he was concerned, now that Finch was out of the picture and the Murrays weren''t involved, those assets should be his-everyst penny.
Yvonne''s reply was cool as ice. "What''s wrong with you? You''re living in a fantasy world."
With that, she hung up. She didn''t just let the call end; she blocked the number without a second thought. It was probably one of Dan''s men calling anyway, but now that number was dead to her.. What a dreamer—did he really think they''d just give it all back because he demanded?
Some people just had a talent for daytime delusion.
Upstairs, Finley was in the middle of telling Ronald he''d take care of the Galen situation in Yornd. Xander had just entered, dropping into the seat next to Finley with a crooked grin.
"Oh, look at you now. Did you finally get a clue?" Xander mocked, augh escaping him.
Ronald just shot Xander a warning look, while Finley''s re could have cut ss. He looked about ready to tear Xander apart on the spot.
Xander took it in stride, coughing a little as if to cover his amusement. "No, listen- before this, every time there was extra work, youined like a drama queen. Nothing was ever good enough; you were always whining about something."
Finley''s expression darkened. The temperature in the room seemed to drop by the second. "Who are you calling a drama queen?" he snapped.
Xander grinned. "Not you, of course not. Except, funny, I do remember somebody nearly crying in the middle of the Muliba Desert because they couldn''t find a shower."
Finley just stared. Was Xander out of his mind?
Rolling his eyes, he decided Xander wasn''t worth another word, but then Ronald jumped in—and only made things worse.
"How can you talk about Finley that way?" Ronald scolded, deadpan. "He''s just lonely. Nothing wrong with a man missing thepany of a woman."
"That''s not—wait, Ronald, what are you—" Finley started to protest, but Xander''s jaw practically hit the floor.
"You''re missing a woman? Wait, is there someone you like over in Yornd? Since when?!"
Finley could only groan. These two-hopeless, both of them. Not one normal person among them.
He shook his head, cutting through their nonsense. "Just answer the question. Do you want me to handle the Galen mess or not?"
"If you want to go, go. Just don''t pretend you''re going just for Galen," Ronald replied, a sly smile on his lips.
Seeing Finley getting defensive only made Xanderugh harder, his shoulders shaking with silent mirth Finley was exasperated You two are impossible! Seriously, what is wrong with you? You all just want to see me die alone, right?”
Xander put his hands up, feigning innocence. "Not us! If anyone''s impatient about
your love life, it''s your sister. She''s the one losing sleep over it."
Finley rolled his eyes again. It was true-Skye had been pestering him for years about settling down, especially after she''d fallen for that bodyguard or driver, or whatever the guy was. She''d practically driven him. mad with her lectures, and now that Finley was finally getting with the program, she was relentless.
Hertest call, just that morning, hadn''t helped his mood: apparently Uriah Homer''s sister, and some distant cousin, had gone to Yornd. What was Uriah thinking? Didn''t he realize Tegan James was there too-and how badly Tegan and Leslie Horner got along? Yet here was Uriah, staying in Portis City while Leslie and Helena flew off to Yornd on their own?
Ronald shrugged. "Go handle the Galen thing, then. Today, if you can."
"Fine by me," Finley replied. Truth was, Ronald''s permission was just a formality—
he''d already nned to leave today. He was just being polite, letting him know.
