Chapter 1010

That''s why she agreed to let Susannae back!

But before she''d even had time to get her n in order, things over on Derek''s end had already erupted.

So if they tried to do a paternity test now, she didn''t even have a swapped sample to

    use.

Meanwhile, since Hull had stationed people inside cktower, Susanna was getting live updates from the estate. When word came that Derek was furious to the point of demanding a DNA test for Finch as well, Susanna couldn''t help but let out a long, impressed whistle.

"So tell me," she said to Hull, "do you think Dan is really his?"

    Hull hesitated, silent.

"I bet he''s not," Susanna dered with relish. "If all four of his so-called kids turn out not to be his, then there must be something wrong with him. I wouldn''t be surprised if even Dan isn''t his!"

If that turned out to be true, the scandal would be beyond incredible—like a plot ripped straight from a melodramatic TV series.

Hull reached over, ruffling her hair with a smile. "Isn''t that exactly what you''ve been hoping for?"

"Oh, it''s more than I hoped for," Susanna beamed. Just picturing Derek-always so cold and untouchable-finally getting a taste of his own medicine, made her feel pure delight. "It''s perfect. The viin finally gets what he deserves. Isn''t that just poetic?"

Elsewhere, Dan was still fuming about his run-in with Yvonne, barely listening as Anders tried to talk some sense into him.

"Why do you keep picking fights with Yvonne?" Anders sighed. "With her temper, aren''t you worried she''ll just explode and scorch you to ashes?”

    Yvonne''s temper was legendary.

"It''s not like I set her off on purpose!" Dan snapped, his chest tight with anger. "She''s the one who keeps going after me trying to beat me up! What was I supposed to do?"

He was ready to pop. These days, he was less than nobody in Yvonne''s eyes.

Or really, he''d always been a nobody where she was concerned.

"I''m just saying," Anders said gently, "when she starts yelling, maybe try not to talk back."

Dan stared at him, incredulous. "Are you even hearing yourself? She screams at me, beats on me, and you''re standing here telling me I can''t even defend myself?"

His frustration only boiled over at that.

"Retorting to her only riles her up more—it just gives her another excuse to smack you," Anders reasoned.

Dan was so angry he couldn''t even get a word out.

Just then, his phone rang—a call from cktower.

    Irritated, he answered, "Yeah?"

"Sir, I think you might want toe back to cktower for a bit,” came the butler Leroy''s grave voice.

    Dan''s face fell. "What happened?"

"There''s trouble here, sir. Mr. and Mrs. Murray are fighting."

Dan was stunned. "What did you say?"

"They''re... fighting?" He could hardly wrap his mind around it. Derek had adored that woman for years, putting her above everything and everyone. There was no way those two would fight-none. Derebhad always treated her like his most precious treasure.

    Leroy exined, "Sir wants a

paternity test for Ms. Ivanna and Ms.

Leanne. Ms: Ivanna ran off with Ms.

    Leanne, and now Sir

    and Airs

Murray are having an argument. The

whole house is in turmoil. You really ought to be home right now."

Dan was speechless. A paternity test? For the children with that woman? In all the

years people gossiped that Ivanna and Leanne weren''t his, Derek had never so much as blinked. Now they were testing them?

He looked sideways at Anders, then said quietly into the phone, "I''ll be there right away."

    "Yes, sir," Leroy replied.

Dan hung up, and for the first time in ages, a real smile crept across his face.

A fight in the Murray house-finally!

Those two had yed the perfect couple for so long, growing old and still locked together, sweet as newlyweds. He always thought nothing could ever tear them apart Especially after seeing Derek put Adelle''s children on a pedestal and treat everyone else''s kids like dirt.

But now? The children of Derek''s precious ''one and only'' had be the sharpest

    thorns in his side.

Couldn''t get any better than this.
