Chapter 1000

"So, what-you think if she just copies the outside, it''s enough to rece her on the inside?" Yvonne scoffed. Just how unhinged was Berry? She''d kept her head down for all these years, and now this stunt?

And honestly, Ronald knew Ste so well that he could recognize every strand of her hair. Did Berry really think just replicating Ste''s face would be enough to fool him? She was seriously underestimating Ronald.

Xander shook his head. "Berry isn''t just getting stic surgery at Novaderma, you know. She''s imitating Ste''s every move-her walk, her mannerisms, even her wardrobe. You get what she''s after now?"

"I get it," Yvonne said, her tone turning cold. She wasn''t slow. With Xanderying it out like that, it couldn''t be any clearer.

Xander watched her catch on instantly, and it stung a little. Why was it so easy for her to believe this, but when he''d told her he was the man from that night, she wouldn''t trust a word?

Yvonne''s irritation boiled over. "Damn it, have these people still not learned their lesson?" Had they already forgotten the way Ronald dealt with the Schultzesst time? And they darede poking around again?

    Xander''s eyes darkened. "There''s more-Berry is Mona''s daughter."

    Yvonne''s eyes widened in shock.

    Wait-what?

How had it ended up involving her?

Yvonne had never thought much of Xander''s stepmother. Before everything with Regina went south three years ago, Mona was the queen bee among the societydies—obnoxiously shy about it, too. After Regina''s scandal, she''d toned it down but always tried to sink her ws into whatever was left of the Schultz fortune. There was a greed in her eyes that made Yvonne sick.

"This is gettingplicated," Xander said. "We need to get back to Ferrond, and fast."

"Your Schultz family... the whole lot of you are insane," Yvonne muttered, shooting Xander a look that said she''d just about reached her limit. Now that Berry turned out to be Mona''s kid, things just got harder to stomach.

Xander gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "How about this-when we get back, let''s just deal with the Schultzes once and for all."

"Is there even anything left?" Yvonne asked dryly. After what her brother did to them after the Ste debacle, she figured the Schultzes were all but ancient history.

Xander gave a crooked smile. “An

old lion still has its ws. There''s always something to

scavenge-even the smallest scraps are worth something. More importantly, Ronald just wants to styr things up in the Schultz family right now."

"What about Hull?" Yvonne pressed. If Ronald was calling the shots, she had to get back to Ferrond-no question. But what about everything left unfinished here?

“Ronald said he''s got it covered. We don''t need to worry," Xander replied. Besides, he''d already scored enough from ck Gate that they were more than even.

"Okay, fine," Yvonne said with a determined nod. "Let''s get moving-now." Anything that touched Ste was cause for urgency.

Over at the hospital, Dan was still fuming, practically clutching his side with rage, Yvonne''s beating hadn''t taken the edge off his temper at now her phone call turned it up to eleven. He felt like his inside were about to burst.

Anders tried to cate him. "Chill out, man. You''re banged up enough as it is."

Dan snarled, "I must''ve owed her in a past life. If she doesn''t get rid of that kid, she''s not even human!"

As she walked down the hall past Dan''s room the door left open, Yvonne caught every word. She''d only just managed to her swallow anger over Ste, but that line dragged it all straight back to the surface.

"That bastard...” she muttered, rolling up her sleeves, ready to go back in and bust him up again.

But Xander pulled her into his arms, holding her back. "Yvonne, seriously-we need to leave. Now."

Inside the room, Dan spotted her ring and didn''t back down. He met her furious gaze with defiance.

“What? I said it! If you don''t get rid of it, you''re a coward!"

Yvonne shot back, "You utter piece of garbage!"
