Chapter 458

    The officer shook his head.

"No, it was a convict named Wesley. They go way back, and he owed Wesley a favor. Wesley''s the one who made him target Adam."

"We questioned Wesley too, and he confessed."

"Adam backed outst minute and wouldn''t donate his kidney to Wesley''s daughter. Wesley was furious and wanted revenge. He set everything up to have Adam hit so he couldn''tpete. He wanted Adam to suffer."

It seemed like a believable motive, and with the confession, the case was closed. But from the moment Evelyn heard Wesley''s name, she knew Dahlia was the mastermind behind it all. She recalled Dahlia''s taunting words at the hospital. Dahlia was determined to make Adam donate his kidney to Sandy, no matter the cost.

After the call ended, Evelyn looked at Adam''s injured hand, her heart clenching with pain. Her hands, hanging by her sides, slowly curled into fists, her nails biting into her palms.

"Adam, get some rest. I''m going to check on Mom," she said softly. Momentster, sheposed herself and stood up.

    "Drive safe," Adam called out.

Evelyn nodded slightly and hurried out. Even without solid proof, she wouldn''t let Dahlia walk away unscathed. She left the hospital, and knowing Dahlia was at Greenrose, she drove straight there.

At Greenrose, Dahlia was in a foul mood. Her ns had crumbled, and seeing Charles doting on Evelyn only made her feel worse. She was visibly down Charles figured she was worn out from worrying about Sandy''s illness. With Sandy''s surgery a sess, he asked Aiden to take Dahlia home for a night''s rest while he stayed at the hospital with Sandy.

Normally, Dahlia would jump at any chance to be alone with Charles, but today she was so upset she feared losing herposure in front of him. So, she went along with his n. Aiden dropped her off and, after ensuring she was settled in her wheelchair, drove off.

Once Aiden was gone, Dahlia''s face turned cold. She wheeled herself into the garden, her anger boiling over as she smashed the carefully nurtured flowers to the ground, pot after pot.

"Evelyn, you wretched woman!" she shouted, her face twisted in rage.

Before she could finish her tirade, a hand grabbed her hair from behind and yanked hard. The force was so strong it felt like her scalp might tear. As her head snapped back, she was met with a stinging p across her face, leaving her ears ringing.

Dahlia looked up, shocked to see it was Evelyn. Anger shed in Dahlia''s eyes, and she swung her hand to strike Evelyn. "Evelyn, you witch! How dare you hit me?!"

But Evelyn was faster. She caught Dahlia''s hand mid-air and delivered another sharp p.

    "You bet I dare!"

"Dahlia, I could beat you to a pulp!" Evelyn''s voice was thick with hatred as she continued to p Dahlia.

"Evelyn, are you out of your mind? Let go of me! What gives you the right to hit me?" Dahlia struggled to break free, trying to dodge, but Evelyn''s ps kepting, each one igniting her fury.

"What gives me the right? Don''t think I don''t know you orchestrated Adam''s ident. You plotted the whole thing, didn''t you? You ruined Adam! You vile woman!"
