Chapter 453

Evelyn was on edge about her mom''s health. She bolted to Dr. Nelson''s office without wasting a second. In her rush, she skipped knocking and burst through the door, her voice tinged with panic, "Dr. Nelson, what''s going on with my mom?"

"Ms. Evelyn, please, take a seat. Let''s talk this through calmly," Andrew said, offering a reassuring smile. He knew Evelyn meant a lot to Charles, so he was noticeably more considerate than usual.

Evelyn plopped down, anxious and impatient. Andrew, trying to be hospitable, brewed her a cup of coffee and set it in front of her.

But Evelyn wasn''t in the mood for coffee. She forced a polite smile, "Thanks." She left the cup untouched, her eyes locked on Andrew, waiting for answers.

Andrew took a calcted sip from his own cup, stalling as per Charles''s instructions, attempting to distract Evelyn with her mom, Josephine''s, supposed health issues. Since there wasn''t any real danger, he didn''t question the orders and tried to dy as Charles had nned.

"Ms. Evelyn, your mother''s condition..." Andrew began.

Evelyn listened intently, but soon realized something was fishy. After ten minutes of talking, Andrew hadn''t said anything meaningful. He danced around the topic of her mom''s health without revealing any real information.

If her mom''s condition had truly changed, Andrew wouldn''t spend so long talking

in circles. "Dr. Nelson, cut to the chase. Is there a problem with my mom''s health or not?"

Andrew hesitated. The truth was, there wasn''t a problem, and he couldn''t manufacture one out of thin air. Scaring Evelyn could spell trouble for him with Charles.

In those few seconds of silence, Evelyn figured it out. Andrew was stalling. "Is this about Charles?"

As soon as she said it, Evelyn was on her feet. Andrew''s expression confirmed her suspicion—it was indeed about Charles. He had Andrew call her to keep her out of the way.

At this critical moment, what else could it be about? He must be after Adam''s kidney.

Realization hit Evelyn like a bucket of

ice water. She dashed out of the office, frantically dialing Adam''s number. No response. She tried again and again, but no luck.

Jumping into her car, she floored it towards the hospital where Adam was, all the

while trying to reach Charles. Call after call, still no answer.

Her anxiety spiked, her grip tightening on the steering wheel. She sped towards the hospital, urgency driving her.

Twenty minutester, Evelyn skidded to a stop at the hospital. She sprinted towards Adam''s room. Looking through the window, she saw Charles standing by Adam''s bed, a cold look on his face. Adam held a familiar donation agreement, signing it.

Adam hated Dahlia and despised Sandy as much as she did. He''d never sign willingly. Charles was pressuring him.

"Adam, don''t sign it!" Evelyn cried, bursting into the room. She lunged for the agreement, but Charles was faster. As she reached, the signed document slipped into his hand.

She stumbled forward, missing her target. Charles caught her with a swift motion, steadying her in his arms.

Evelyn''s eyes fell on the signature line of the donation agreement. Adam had indeed signed.

Fury filled her eyes, and she reached out again, determined to reim the document.
